I have been working at FactSet full-time

    Pros

Benefits are good - great health care plan, subsidized lunches, PTO, sponsored CFA with bonuses for passing
The work is occasionally quite interesting

    Cons

Reviews and compensation are structurally flawed, not competitive with market
    Regular reorganization
Client-facing roles often poorly defined, scope changes regularly

    Advice to Management

FactSet's reviews and compensation are fundamentally flawed. Top performers are compensated similarly to low/mediocre performers, and compensation is generally below market regardless. This has become more pronounced in recent years, and FactSet regularly loses good people because of it. A relatively easy problem to fix, however management is more concerned with stock buybacks.

I worked at FactSet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Decent compensation for entry-level software engineers
    - Free lunch
    - Good work life balance, consistent 40-hour work weeks
    - Good health insurance through Aetna

    Cons

    - Incompetent middle managers who lack project management skills
    - Incredibly slow turnover for hardware and software resources requests from infrastructure teams
    - Heavily outsourcing Software Engineering jobs to Hyderabad since 2016, diminishes feeling of job security and working with them can be frustrating
    - Ratings system uses bell curve and can hurt members of consistently high-performing teams

    Advice to Management

Use more common sense and listen to peoples' feedback, especially when it's not what you want to hear. Pretending that everything is great can only work for so long before your top performers realize that they can do better.

I worked at FactSet (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Had a nice office at 311 s wacker. Nice people. Free lunch / snacks.

    Cons

No real training. Disorganized career plan. Company made money but raises and bonuses not given out. Would not approve paying for education that did not directly align with current position.

    Advice to Management

I left and took a job at another company for +20% salary after not getting a raise or bonus for 3 years. Some of your employees are undervalued.

I have been working at FactSet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Free lunch 4 days a week, good medical benefits, comfortable office environment

    Cons

Promotions are scarce and not adequately compensated. The CEO cares more about image than providing a quality product. Most development work is sent overseas and is not held to a high standard. Few QA testers, lack of resources across the board. The company is more focused on marketing campaigns and installing giant Tv's in the office than employing the "best and brightest".

    Advice to Management

Learn to value your people. Compensate fairly. Also learn from your competitors - moving everything overseas may cut cost but the quality of work and service often suffers.

    Pros

    Free lunch
    Pays for CFA
    Exposure to cool clients
Work life balance. Extra special if you are one of the many employees that don't want to work.

    Cons

While there are some very smart people at FactSet, most smart people leave.

I worked at FactSet (More than a year)

    Pros

Somewhat flexible in allowing employees to work remotely when necessary

    Cons

If you have experience at another company, it doesn't seem to matter. You will not be considered for new roles and your prior experience is not valued. They already have the winning candidate pre-selected before the interviewing process starts.

I have been working at FactSet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

FactSet is really a good place to learn for beginner. Great advancement in terms of technical growth if you are part of team moving into web.

Nice vacation policies and free food from Monday to Thursday

    Cons

Immigration - It is worst for candidates who are looking for filing H1B and GreenCard. They usually do not file H1B immediately for new grads and also delay significantly in filing green card. Higher management team does not seem to be very interested as well so entire process turns out to be very slow. Whereas other companies tend to file within 2 years. This is one of the biggest reason people are leaving this company.

Also if you are looking for big cut in your bonuses, then you are moving towards wrong company. FactSet doesn't pay well as compared to other companies in similar area.

    Advice to Management

I would advice higher management to bring stability and consider problems faced by the people in your department.

I have been working at FactSet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Good healthcare and free lunch 4 days a week.
    * Some teams are well run and make an effort to keep up with the latest tech.
    * Engineering management is typically loaded with engineers

    Cons

    * Pay is good for new grads, but raises wont keep up.
    * Retirement plan is sub-par for the industry.
    * Career progression for engineering is non existent.
    * Feature factory type mentality.
    * Middle management is typically incompetent and is very clique-y
    * Little responsibility and trust is given to individual contributors.
    * Upper management tries to encourage innovation, but middle management is not interest in hearing bottom up ideas, and is more focused on maintaining control, so no innovation happens
    * Major outsourcing push and upper management wonders why moral is low.

    Advice to Management

You market yourselves as a tech company and claim to want the best and brightest, yet you treat engineering like IT at a bank. Adopt an approach closer to leading tech firms and you may actually be able to tap into existing and new talent.

Massive outsourcing to India and Manila and then claiming you are concerned about "diversity" and corporate responsibility is nearly contradictory. This type of double speak demotivates employees who are there to make great products.

I have been working at FactSet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

free lunch, free snacks, ESOPP, nice location outside of the city

    Cons

If you like to be around silent corporate drones, mired in bureaucracy, trying to find the cheapest and fastest way to do something then this is the place for you! Even if the fastest and cheapest way takes obscenely long and the programming or data are wrong- a significant portion of the data is- that's going to be someone else's problem later and the overseas workers problem now.

    Advice to Management

Upgrade the technology. Innovate instead of outsource. Change the culture to be less silent and miserable.

    Pros

    -work/life balance
    -friendly culture
-c suite awareness of employee discontent
-c suite working on bringing more training programs to the company
-c suite is genuine and friendly

    Cons

-tenured, but inexperienced, immature, and naive middle management
-lack of direction for many employees
-compensation is far below any other software company in NY or CA
    -outdated technology
-lack of praise to those that actually do the work that drive the future of factset
-belief that tools/project management are the end solution to everything

    Advice to Management

Raise your compensation of Eng and Product and reconsider the value of your employees who are putting their hearts into product day and night. There are a lot of people looking elsewhere because of this easily solvable issue.
