    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Fairchild Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Easygoing coworkers and willingness to work as a team to accomplish daily goals. Breaks and vacation times are somewhat flexible. Pay is reasonable for Maine.

    Cons

Yearly merit raises are meager. Company didn't give any at all for quite a few years after the housing bubble burst and stagnated the economy. They could've been more generous with raises to compensate when the economy improved. Company uses too many temporary workers due to seasonal ups and downs and so time spent training them is wasted when they leave.

    Advice to Management

Don't micro-manage veteran employees as they know their job better than you ever will. HR needs to be more autonomous and not wrapped around managements finger.

I worked at Fairchild Semiconductor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Immediate supervisors were good to work with. A lot of autonomy. Projects were challenging.

    Cons

Corporate level management mismanaged the company into oblivion.

    Advice to Management

A little late now, but manage operations to satisfy customers and the stock prices will take care of themselves.

I have been working at Fairchild Semiconductor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small groups/teams, potential to make big impact. There are a number of people who have joined from other established companies in the last 4-5 years who are committed to improving the company. The management is also behind them. Salaries are competitive and generally pretty good for the area. Good work life balance promoted through onsite trainers and classes.

    Cons

Still small company mentality. Lot of people do not want to change and adopt new processes. Some weird salary raises provided to people in the past that make things very unequal.

    Advice to Management

Continue to drive process improvement and support people with innovative ideas. Make things consistent, especially in the career ladder.

I worked at Fairchild Semiconductor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fairchild "was" a great place to work. Good benefits, no one breathing down your neck every minute, had a lot of fun activities for employee's, very competitive pay.

    Cons

They closed out plant and took it to Korea. They broke the lives of hundreds of long term, dedicated employee's without giving a crap how many lives they were tearing apart. After 20/30 years plus employment to have everything you know taken away from you so they can line their own pockets a little heavier with cheap labor.

    Advice to Management

You are why America is falling apart. It's not about taking care of your own, it's about "how much richer can I be" Very Un-American.

I worked at Fairchild Semiconductor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent workforce in many locations - especially sites like Maine, Korea, and Cebu.
    Great legacy
    Very good compensation

    Cons

Management way into the blame game - know who to blame before you start
Strategic direction lacking -- focus on stock price, not what need to be done to be a great company
Huge trust gap between sites and between groups.
Leaders held back while managers push for more work -- "our problem must be our people"

    Advice to Management

    Replace yourselves with leaders.
Don't drive the workforce crazy with overload.
You can't cut your way to success.

I worked at Fairchild Semiconductor full-time

    Pros

Local Management at the manufacturing plant was great and offered good challenges and working environment. Many employees were there for 10 - 30 years.

    Cons

Upper Executive Management made some very poor decisions that were not supported by customers needs or financially sound. They closed very successful plants just to use unproven technology.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to someone who can run one or close down as your customers will leave anyway.
