I have been working at Fairfield University (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are wonderful, and each day brings something different. All of my immediate superiors have been great to work with.

    Cons

Adjunct faculty aren't compensated all that fairly. Sometimes there are office politics, which can detract from getting work done.

    Advice to Management

Keep your employees happy! Give your adjunct faculty fair compensation, including contracts that last longer than just one semester.

I have been working at Fairfield University (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great as is the work life balance. Generous time off for Christmas and half day Fridays during summer. Cheap gym membership.

    Cons

Not enough room for growth and low pay with no bonus. Top management has been plucked from the corporate world and work environment starting to reflect that.

    Advice to Management

Don't preach about saving money and how every bit counts, and then turn around and spend money on things like a $50K car for the Exec V.P., plus spending money on numerous newly created postions.

Unenlightened and parochial leadership policies Lots of salary compression. Tuition goes up regularly. Salaries not so much.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the amount to blame going, around it infects the culture

I have been working at Fairfield University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing community of staff and most of the students are wonderful.

    Cons

Not enough people to do the work.
    Some very entitled students

    Advice to Management

Stop requiring staff to work double time to accomplish expectations and then making them feel guilty about struggling with "work life balance"

    Pros

The people are wonderful, the campus is beautiful, the work is interesting and engaging. The benefits are very good, especially paid time off and pension.

    Cons

The place is changing. Fairfield used to display it's Jesuit values and ideals in every area. Now it seems to be turning into a corporate like work environment.

    Advice to Management

    Don't forget who you are
