I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great travel benefits, fun people, great company culture

    Cons

Working the holidays and weekends can really be draining and make it hard to have normal life. Benefits dwindled as my time went on

    Advice to Management

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great destinations program to stay at other Fairmont hotels, competitive rate of pay, great external training classes from leaders from their own organization behavior professional.

    Cons

Very corporate, meaning if you have a bad director you will not have a good experience. I worked in a department with a poor director, but I could tell the other departments and properties that had better directors had a better work life. I wish there was more structure and direction for the department and my personal goals. Signed a 50 hour contract and usually work 65 hours with one day off and director expected nothing less than this.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your colleagues want and respect their needs and realize that everyone has their own idea of work-life balance and goals.

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time

    Pros

I learned a lot about how to handle union employees, how to be a direct manager, and how to deal with large issues with both guests and employees

    Cons

Upper management did not care very much about your happiness and expected you to immediately know how to do something despite being in a training program. The hours were long and the schedule was crazy - going from working overnight to working the day shift with only one day off in between. There's little time for life outside of work.

    Advice to Management

Check in on your people more often, try to allow more work - life balance.
