I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits to stay at Fairmont properties. Lovely properties. At least superficially friendly staff.

    Cons

Complete dysfunction from the top down. Way too much red tape. Lip service not backed by management's actions. No clear future planned for company.

    Advice to Management

Give people a clear vision of where the company is going and how to get there. Get rid of the rotten apples, especially at the top. Give people the tools and authority to do their jobs effectively.

    Pros

Great Hotel Perks - Discounts at other Fairmont Resorts
    Great Brand
Some really great front-line employees with amazing customer service
    Job itself is fulfilling

    Cons

Management does not exist - Has no idea what they are doing
HR is terrible - Blaming employees for terrible hotel scores and not management
Food in Cafeteria is terrible - Got food poisoning numerous times
Accounting department can not get your paycheck right - Then HR blames you

    Advice to Management

HR is absolutely terrible! Purposely, lies and changes records to cover their own mistakes resulting in damaging peoples lives. Hire someone who actually wants to help the employees, that have a soul!

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and pay, Guests are high end clientele and typically pleasant to interact with. Some employees are really special people.

    Cons

social hierarchy and attitudes, you will work with many dumb people who think they are better than you based on their hotel job title. Sometimes guests can be difficult but that is any hotel.

    Advice to Management

Everything in the hotel starts with the GM. If you have a great GM the entire hotel becomes a better place to work. If you have a bad one it becomes easy to get discouraged. I worked 10 years for this company and was not once acknowledged for my work. Pretty disparaging when I think about it. I'm not saying I was the greatest worker but just a simple thank you for the time and effort would have gone a long way.
