    Pros

    Benefits for non-Union employees are better than most companies. Retirement benefits plan is ancient and not effective if not an employee for nearly a decade.

    Cons

    Terrible. The company touts change and all of the fancy words to attract potential employees, once inside the organization you find out how stagnant, fearful of change, terrible the administration and non-clinical leaders are in their work. HR in particular is the worst cultural experience for an experienced employee. The constant turnover is a red flag I ignored and encourage job seekers considering Fairview or M Health to consider. Seeking employment outside of this organization and exiting as quickly as possible. This is not a place for a bright and shining star, this organization will kill anyone with enthusiasm very quickly.

    Advice to Management

    There isn't a way to untangle the knot that has created a nasty, fearful and culture that rewards its worst employees and terrible leadership behaviors.

    If I thought there was hope here I would stay, however it's quite clear that dysfunction and corrupt administration is a choice.

    Pros

    Talented employees who desire to be of service

    Cons

    Weak management skills, favoritism, manipulative environments, under staffed, expectation of unpaid overtime, infrastructure is VERY outdated, high turnover, virtually no effective team building/training/problem solving, NO rewards for hard work (sometimes the standard lip service Thank You)

    Advice to Management

    Consider an appropriate/comprehensive/multi disciplinary team building approach instead of desperate attempts to quickly meet compliance. Do NOT continue to communicate regularly with ONLY a few key people. Show at least a minimum of regard for the experience and training of employees

    Pros

    Love my co workers. Close to my home. Doctors know what they are doing. I sit by a window. My work is easy.

    Cons

    Micromanagement. Low morale. Not concerned about team building. No room for growth. Favoritism. Doctors pay is production based which can be lead to unethical decision-making. Benefits are amongst the worst compared to other large healthcare systems in the area. So cheap that they won't supply staff with plastic cutlery or coffee. Changed maternity benefits so that you have to take 4hours of PTO for any doctor appointments even if your appointment only takes 1 hour. No paid holidays.

    Advice to Management

    Focus your attention on the insanely high turnover rate. Grow your staff so they take pride in their work.

    i don't have one good thing to say

    worst place i ever worked
    limited healthplan choices
    employees have to pay for parking
    not enough outsiders in leadership roles
    no professional development
    systems, structures and operations are 25-30 years behind

    Advice to Management

    hire leaders from outside the healthcare industry; take a chance like Ford did with Alan Mulally
    adopt an accountability culture

    Pros

    Fantastic co-workers. Benefits weren't bad either.

    Cons

    Oh, where do I begin? The pay quite low for administrative jobs (claimed to be at 'market value'. Not sure which market they're referring to). There was never anyone to talk to regarding HR issues- we never had an HR associate for our office.
     Some of the upper management is very, for lack of a better work, unprofessional.
    A large company that cannot hold a CEO (especially one with fantastic ideas) for more than 9 months is frightening, especially since the last one was ousted.
    Claimed there was never money for raises, but new buildings were always going up, six figures were paid to a company to come up with the new logo for Minnesota Health. Fairview is all about the profit, and it is really quite obvious.
    No one is ever really sure what is going on with upper management or the boards (yes, Fairview University has two boards of highly paid business people) and are quite honestly, always worried about their jobs.

    Advice to Management

    Please, I beg you, be more transparent with your employees and LISTEN TO THEM. The people that do the actual work often have wonderful ideas. You could be a great company.

    Pros

    The pay checks usually clear, but don't expect them to ever get larger.

    Cons

    The outlook for this company is grim; there is no money to do anything unless it is putting out a fire. In fact, that is the only way anything gets done is if there a breach, a failure, an emergency.
    The most unqualified people are watching the most critical systems. The most overqualified people are doing mundane tasks. There is no room to move, no chance to advance, no plan for improvement or training unless you are hired in far below your market value (then enjoy the training while you can get it).
    Things move slow where there are no fires. Vendors are brought in to do the serious, fun, resume-building work because noone wants to be set up for the blame game if something goes wrong.
    The best employees just disappear. No explanation and the ones left behind are often the ones that got fired somewhere else.
    This is simply the most toxic environment I have ever witness and I am ashamed to tell people I worked here as long as I did.

    Advice to Management

    All of management, at least in the IT department, needs to be reevaluated. There is a lot of unprofessional vendor favoritism going on and most decisions are not being made with Fairview's long-term best interest in mind.

    pays the bills until you find a place and a boss that you actually WANT to work for

    Cons

    low standards
    formal leadership gets drunk with their employees and if you don't join them, you're bullied
    when you complain about the bullying and poor office etiquette, it gets worse, not better
    the raises are pathetic
    health benefits are expensive on the paycheck and out of your pocket
    real concerns about patient safety doesn't seem to be accounted for
    no communication from leadership
    must be in a clique to not have your lunch stolen from the refrigerator
    suggestions aren't listened to
    ...the list goes on

    Advice to Management

    Shrink the size of your head and realize that you don't know everything. Ask for suggestions, listen, and communicate. Saying that you don't "micro manage" is just an excuse to be lazy. Get over yourself and when you have to make decisions based on zero experience, do a little research and ask the people who will be directly affected by the change. Take some Organization Development classes...maybe take any management classes.

    Pros

    ROWE environment. The checks clear.

    Cons

    It has gotten steadily worse over the past couple of years. Cost of living adjustments are rare, raises even more so. Training is out unless you are new, underpaid and extremely green. Forget about peer training as most work exists in silos, even on a team there is almost no overlap of skills.

    Benefits have decreased steadily, the pension plan got axed, the 403b matching is a joke and medical gets worse by leaps and bounds each year. The past three years we have been forced to burn/lose banked vacation time and getting time off is often a problem. Because of a lack of coverage, there is often the expectation you will continue working to some degree while on vacation.

    Lately the problems have escalated. New development has been largely frozen, paperwork and progress meetings have taken over most of the week. We spend a great deal of time defending against the one person no one should not have to justify work to... our direct manager.

    Work has taken a strange, incident-based approach. Run-the-business work that keeps the lights on and the systems running smoothly is now frowned upon. Instead, work is done only when something breaks and an incident is created. This type of reactionary workplace is eventually going to lead to all sorts of problems and potentially lawsuits.

    In order to cover work with a reduced workforce, a concept of flexing is in place. Instead of doing what they are best at, highly trained professionals are out installing PC's and operating systems, doing data entry and installing software.

    Advice to Management

    Put management in place that actually understands the work they are managing. Ex-healthcare providers or year 2000 holdover don't have the background to propel the company forward.

    ROWE is about results and understand the work is a prerequisite for measuring those results, falling back to a warm-seat management style isn't good for the company. Train and respect your employees to show you value them.

    Pros

    Cool staffs except managers and upper management.
    I would said too much politics here but please don't care what they say just focus on work cause that's all they care. Also people just come to work not to be your friend..

    Cons

    Micro manage in the Epic Cadence team.
    Be-aware.
    No more work from home for IT.
    Old school staffs.
    No gym
    Fairview and u of m are corrupted
    Logo is all over the place Unorganize
