I have been working at Fairview Health Services part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The folks who end up working here have a heart of gold and are willing to put up with upper management impotence and shenanigans. If you're into medically complex patients with transplants and/or cancer, this is the place for you.

    Cons

Upper management kind of talks from both sides of their mouth about having goals on compassion, but having zero goals in terms of helping quality of life for their employees. It can't work one way--in order to take care of patients we have to have good care for ourselves. Epic goes down too frequently and too often relative to other health care systems--at HCMC it's down for at most an hour and very rarely at that.

    Advice to Management

Really would hold off on advertising Fairview's services until you actually have the capacity to treat patients. There's incredibly long waits to see specialists, beds are chronically short and the residents and attendings are stretched thin to see high volume of high acuity patients. Advertising just worsens this situation--don't offer what we do not currently have.

    Pros

Decent benefits and great people that are patient orientated.

    Cons

Management is management orientated. No say in job your outcome.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more of a voice in their job tasks and how to manage their inventory and tasks.

I have been working at Fairview Health Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A workday is very diverse, and includes all aspects of testing including specimen collection, order entry, and test resulting. It's great to see the patients and know where your specimens come from. Management works with you on process improvement and open to suggestions. Very approachable. Nurses and other care providers are great to communicate with for problem resolution, and clarification. Cheap, quality healthcare options if you don't mind staying in the Fairview network. Plenty of overtime opportunities.

    Cons

Again the fast pace means time management is key, so there is a constant focus on catching all problems early on for a quick turn around time.

I worked at Fairview Health Services full-time

    Pros

Large organization with multiple locations around the state

    Cons

Despite being a medical care provider, Fairview provides especially poor health care plan for employees

  11. "Laboratory"

    Star Star Star Star Star
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

I do not have to see patients, the people I work with are really cool, we get to work with body parts all day long, nice squishy mats to stand on

    Cons

There are no windows in the entire lab, the coffee is not very good depending on who makes it

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to come and see how the merger with Health East has negatively impacted our productivity
