  5. "Stores are fun, corporate is AWFUL"

    Pros

Within the stores, there is a nice feeling of being in a family. It feels very united, at least among managers.

    Cons

Corporate is a hot mess. Nepotism-style behavior from the new COs and their favorites from their previous company. The new COs know NOTHING of the NE tri-state customer base, don't understand the day to day operations of the store. These people ripped away Fairway's identity, and replaced it with a limp nothing that doesn't know who it's trying to please. They don't care a bit for the operations team, and have driven morale down to the lowest I've ever seen in a company. In a store, the management ALL feels constantly under attack and hassled by head honchos in Corp. These people (new COs and supporting cast) WILL drive that company into the ground if they are allowed to stay around, as can be further demonstrated by the numbers the company is producing.

    Advice to Management

Your store employees are the face of this company. You get the employees you pay for. Customers can tell when employees are miserable, and it's an unpleasant shopping experience. Ever walk into a Trader Joe's? They know how it's done.

    Pros

Competitive salary, and decent work life balance

    Cons

Upper management is ill equipped to run the business. Unless you're in the inner circle none of your ideas will be heard and you have no hope of professional growth. Tons of favoritism, and bad business decisions.

    Advice to Management

Go back to North Carolina. New York is not for you.

    Cons

    Pros

You will meet some nice people who are stuck in the same boat with you. Discount in the store can be good sometimes.

    Cons

This is for the corporate HQ tho from what I hear about the stores it as bad there or worse. Senior management is clueless, act like spoiled children, constantly offending or making people angry, put their own selfishness over leading the company in a better direction. The CEO came a couple years ago from north carolina and made his friends from there executives and vp's at fairway. They talk down to everyone like they know better when they have no clue how the NYC market works. They do favors for their friends and ignore the people who have been dedicated to this place for a very long time or who try to do their job well. They also make employees feel guilty for taking sick days, attending to personal matters, going on actual lunch breaks, or even just having a life outside of work (although they take as much time off as they want). Don't ever expect a pay raise even if you get a promotion. Constant drama, constant backstabbing. And the worse part is that the HR dept is a joke so theres no one to have your back. It's no surprise that the company went bankrupt and sales are terrible.

    Advice to Management

Be REAL leaders, get your act together, show some respect to your employees, and stop taking credit for all the work that they do.
