I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for growth and to learn new skills. The culture was very supportive and positive to be in.

    Cons

The change with ownership and the ability for growth was killed. A uncertain future changed the culture.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People you work with are great. Store Managers work their tail off. Always lots to do. Never something to do.

    Cons

PAY, Work Schedule is horrible only know your schedule one week in advance. Everyone is underpaid.. CSR work their home store and other stores always. Asm is extremely underpaid compared to other retail outlets. Also the store manager works a lot and has basically zero home life. 14 hour shifts no breaks. Only get a break if applicable.

    Advice to Management

Only to Higher Ups, pay your ASM and Store Managers better.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time

    Pros

People. store teams are hard working, fast pace

    Cons

Benefits, poor quality of life, expect team to do more than there is budget or time.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat everyone like they are incompetent, Dollar Tree continues to make changes (not for the good) with benefits, bonus, vacation policies which has impacted morale

I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Internal promoting is quick if you work hard and want a career. Salary and bonuses are fair for SMs. Salary and benefits are ok but not cheap. Dms salary is fair, bonuses are now based off of sales.

    Cons

Upper management not in the field, there is no real support. DMs are the only true support Store Mangers have. Mangers must work long hours to get the job done with minimal payroll. As a DM, it's your word against SM if your holding them accountable for poor performance. If your not a butt kisser to a Regional your a target.

    Advice to Management

Give SMs more payroll to run their business. Understand the diversity of personalities and accept who they are.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of advancement possibilities for serious, hard working, and dedicated individuals. Most of the upper management seems to really care about you as a person and the benefits and pay are reasonable.

    Cons

As a salaried store manager, the pay may be sufficient however stores are barely given enough payroll to operate leading to long hours alone in the store and having to do most of the work yourself. It's also taxing on the home life.
