I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Internal promoting is quick if you work hard and want a career. Salary and bonuses are fair for SMs. Salary and benefits are ok but not cheap. Dms salary is fair, bonuses are now based off of sales.

    Cons

Upper management not in the field, there is no real support. DMs are the only true support Store Mangers have. Mangers must work long hours to get the job done with minimal payroll. As a DM, it's your word against SM if your holding them accountable for poor performance. If your not a butt kisser to a Regional your a target.

    Advice to Management

Give SMs more payroll to run their business. Understand the diversity of personalities and accept who they are.

I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary is decent as comparable to other Dollar store businesses. Insurance is in line with industry standard. There are some good people within the company.

    Cons

This company does not care about their people in any capacity. Turnover is rampant. They turn around a third of the DMs every year and are quick to tell you the same. Store turnover is ridiculous which makes them impossible to run. Hard to recommended to anyone unless there are drastic changes.

    Advice to Management

Make changes and have a commitment.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility to make your own schedule and use vacation or sick days as needed, paid weekly, some opportunity for advancement

    Cons

Not enough payroll, entirely too much theft and robberies, no work/life balance at all, 52+ hours/6 day work week, no security

    Advice to Management

The company should care more about their people. They are the ones who control everything inside of their stores.
