I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A good way to earn experience in the retail world while expanding your resume. learned A lot of skills that I am able to take with me to future jobs

    Cons

Hours dip after holidays, promises constantly broken (promotions, raises), You get blamed for a lot of stuff that is out of your control. they keep adding more ways to waste time, while yelling at you to stop wasting time (constant email updates, constant conference calls, changing the way you do simple stuff like counting the safe, etc.)

    Advice to Management

Stop changing systems that weren't broken in the first place, when I first had the job about a year ago, I had to do almost a quarter of the b.s. I have to do now. I'm less productive because I'm constantly telling you how productive I'm being.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The location in which you work out of can be very friendly and family oriented if you can get along well with your boss and coworkers.

    Cons

There is a very high safety risk working out of many store locations because of the areas family dollar is generally located.

    Advice to Management

There is a lack of communication and empathy from higher management. The lack of interest in their people makes people feel unappreciated and under-valuated causing the best employees to leave.

    Pros

Customers make your day. Loved ins and outs o f running my location.

    Cons

Work life balance is horrible. Even on your day off or after your shift you are suppose to know what is going on in your location. DMs are terrible call you at 11pm after your location is closed. Pay is terrible for all the work and hours you have to complete. Dc trucks are horrible pallets collapse all the time. They send things that you do not need or have ordered.

    Advice to Management

Let your store managers work 5days a week 45-48hrs a week.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are with a great team, it can be fun. Being with a good crew, you won't mind coming to work.

    Cons

Your hours are based off the success of the store. Security is also an issue. If you are robbed, it seems like they are more worried about the money than your safety.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Much experience in all store operations. The people you work with become family. The stores success becomes all consuming when the manager is good and fair

    Cons

Rude customers, high employee turn over. Much micromanaging from the cooperate hierarchy, high expectations without the proper tools to do some of the expected tasks.

    Advice to Management

Reward the team rather than just the store manager, they need the whole team to be dedicated and loyal

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My managers were pretty nice, to the point of buying me food and being lenient with me and my work, and they agreed I wasn't being paid sufficiently

    Cons

I was put in for a raise to $9/hour in february. It's october and i still don't have it without any explanation from my managers beyond that it must have been denied by the higher ups
    People tend to suck, ofc
Corporate doesn't give us enough payroll to hire enough people to keep the store running reasonably, yet expect perfection from us
Ability to alter any information including your own gender, preferred name, and address has to go through a manager and can't be done yourself
You have to call a manager for most every function on the computer(and there's no loudspeaker or anything so be prepared to yell)
    Hours tend to be bad
Because of poor staffing you may be asked to work full time hours on a part time salary
Holidays off? Probably not gonna happen.
No real discounts for if you work there. Sometimws you get additional smart coupons on the app. That's about it.

    Advice to Management

Get more payroll from corporate and hire more people to be on your floor at all times, maybe.
