I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Absolutely none! This is a dead end/thankless job!

    Cons

Corporate doesn't give enough hours to properly staff store! They have unrealistic expectations for all demands made on Store Managers! Can't control theft in bad neighborhoods when there's only 1 or 2 employees in store!

    Advice to Management

Payroll hours need to be increased to decrease shrink & maintain clean stores. Store Managers should not be expected to work EXCESSIVE hours to make up for payroll shortfalls! Increase wages for employees so they stay!

I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you like being given unrealistic expectations with daily stress and aggravation.... this employer is for you!

    Cons

Managers are required to work 52 hours. Given such small payroll hours to work with, there's not enough staffing for all the work to be done. They expect the manager to make up the difference, so a 70+ hour week is not unusual. All the time I spent at the store almost cost me a divorce. The hours given to stock the store (door-to-shelf) are 50 cases per hour which includes repacks (totes of piece merchandise not in cases) and all the security tagging that is done as you stock. All of this when you work the week with 4-6 hours daily with only one employee (cashiering, stocking, setting new department schematics, setting monthly endcaps and the manager also has to review security footage daily, do weekly counts and monthly billing statements). Miserable working conditions.

    Advice to Management

Give your stores the employee hours needed to actually make the stores look presentable, get the work done AND help the customers. Don't let your district managers use trainers (who are managers with their own stores) take care of half your work for you, being too concerned about all the stores but their own. Think of better security measures and actually care that "customers" walk out multiple times a day with baskets, carts and totes full of merchandise and all the employees can do is basically tell them to have a good day as they rob you blind.

I worked at Family Dollar Stores part-time

    Pros

I didn't like anything about working there.

    Cons

    1. Six hours and no break. 2. Wanted part-time and employer keep calling me to come in with no assigned schedule and tells me I'm late. 3. No feeling of safety at night. 4. Too many tasks for too little pay. 5. 15 minutes training. 6.Three security tags to hunt for on clothing and people buy over ten garments. 7. Strange people come in store and steal and management wants you to argue with them. 8. Understaffed in considering volume of customers (Me and the super., lines go from register to back of the store). 9. People frequently fill up two carts worth of items.

    Advice to Management

    Retire.
