    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

It is a sound company to work for.
The company has no debt. The pay scale for managers is good. Managers generally can be assured of Sunday off work.

    Cons

There are long hours to be put in. 52 hours per week are the expected hours to be put in by store managers. You unload trucks and process freight with little to no help as payroll constraints do not allow for much help.

    Advice to Management

In downway economic times, costs should be cut, however, to take desperately needed payroll hours is dispicable practice. Try limiting some of the perks and bonuses from the higher management, not the folks who earn stockholders money.

    Pros

Solid pay - predictable work day - flexible time off - awesome HR department - convenient if you live in South Charlotte

    Cons

management is reactive and not proactive - because of the predictability at which the distribution center runs, the routine can be a bit mind-numbing - very little communication between managerial levels.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps have more dialogue between workers and management that is more substantial than just corporate flag-waving. Perhaps a more thorough orientation for new hires.

    Pros

Working in a small store allow you to get to know your coworkers and customers better. You build better relationships.

    Cons

The pay is the worse con. Compareed to other companies the company could raise starting to pay. Also benefits could be better.

    Advice to Management

Management could always improve on the way they communicate with the non management team members. They are the ones who have the most contact with customers so their input should be considered.

    Pros

Freadom to make your own choices.
No micro managing from upper management.
    Buying choices have gotten better.
Store are getting new POS equipment.

    Cons

Not enough payroll to get what is expected done ,done.
Management spending several hours alone in the store before a cashier can come in.
Not giving extra payroll to train people. They have to learn as they go.
Not enough added payroll to support to store for anyone to take vacation time off.

    Advice to Management

You should never have to be alone. Most of these store are in crime areas. This is not only a safety issue, but it also hurts your customer service and store moral.

    Pros

Family Dollar Stores has a great culture and does an excellent job welcoming new members into the fold. They're making great strives in upgrading their technology systems and establishing themselves as a dominant retail force.

    Cons

The overall conditions of the working environment at the corporate headquarters leaves a bit to be desired. After orientation, it can be easy to get lost in the crowd within a department.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend setting up a stronger training or mentoring program. It would also be helpful to offer more insight into the functions of various departments to facilitate better cross-functional and interdepartmental projects.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

need store metings, better communications, need to know if there is a real opportunity.

    Pros

If you don't mind working for a salary that is less than the average salaries, you can work at Family Dollar for life as long as you don't break any rules or make anyone upset with you. The employee benefits were good, especially if you did not have any before being hired.

    Cons

I saw some discrimination (if you were young and cute you got better opportunities than if you were not). There was also a "good ole' boys" club amongst some of the senior management.

    Advice to Management

Listen and act upon employee feedback. Recognize and deal with senior management that is getting away with not following policy and treating people like they have no value.

    Pros

It's a job, that you should build from. Easy to do if you go to work, do all asked ( not much), and willing to work whenever.

    Cons

Late night closing in the dark is very creepy. Many stores in the Metro area get robbed with little support from upper mgt.

    Advice to Management

Cameras in all stores and improve on the job training for new hires..not just hire bodies in the store.
