I worked at Family Preservation Services (More than a year)

    Pros

There is nothing I can say good about this company. It buys other companies and then finds ways to get rid of the employees.

    Cons

Over work employees. Under pay employees. Treat employees poorly.

I worked at Family Preservation Services (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Autonomy over your sessions.
Resources provided outside of the agency provides a variety of educational skills to build onto your resume.

    Cons

    Lack of trust for management.
If they do not like you, you will not last long.
Anyone too eager to learn is a threat to those in charge.
There are no supervisors, they call themselves your "bosses"
Benefits are expensive for "Employee +1" and "Family" Although "Family" is cheaper than "Employee +1"
Training consists of reading the Employee Manual that is ever changing without your knowledge
Too much training puts your "bosses" at a disadvantage, therefore, it does not happen too often.
Integrity is not a part of their philosophy. "Team" is only used during the interview and orientation.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.
Adapt a supervisor attitude. Every moment is a teachable moment. Supervision is not about "supervising." It is about leading a team to be the best there is with integrity.
    Transparency with policy.
    Communicate with staff.
Don't take everything so personal. Maintain your professionalism.
If you can't hold to your Professional Code of Ethics than at least treat people as human beings.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, Company mission means well.

    Cons

Pay is way below industry average

    Advice to Management

Dont get so hung up on the type of degree an employee has. Some people may have all degrees in the world but no ability to manage others. Also this is a for profit company so you need to start hiring buisiness people to run the business aspect rather than trying to get social workers to learn how to do it.

I worked at Family Preservation Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people I worked with were wonderful. They were like a family.

    Cons

Upper administration fired people rather than educating and explaining what their concern was. There were no chances for change and it was like walking on eggshells as you didn't know if you would be fired for smiling at the wrong person.

    Advice to Management

Be a leader rather than just a dictator. Give people a chance through showing care and concern. Money isn't everything in life.

    Pros

Great opportunity to get experience in the counseling field and work directly with clients. Very rewarding work and gained experience in counseling, case management, and behavioral strategies.

    Cons

Terrible supervisors and director. They showed very little compassion towards clients and would ignore red flags and safety issues. Very unprofessional during supervision and in the work setting in general. Director was impersonal and made clients feel uncomfortable when the director would come to work sites. Additionally, very low pay for the amount of work and education required.

    Advice to Management

Some management has been there a long time, and no longer are able to maintain the required level of professionalism. Changes need to be made, or the management staff needs to change completely.
