I have been working at Family Service Association full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Coworkers are knowledgeable and supportive
-you gain valuable work and life experience

    Cons

    -turnover rate is extremely high
    -very disorganized
-don't have support from some administration who are power hungry and quick to point the finger to anyone but themselves
-no consistency in the different clinics

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff and actually TRAIN them! We receive no trainings and are expected to learn everything as we go. Assign staff to specific roles and stick to it instead of assigning them four or five different roles, which they clearly won't have time for.

Instead of seeing the problem with the clinic as the staff in it, look more towards the administration running it. Respect your staff and they will respect you.

    Pros

Most of the employees are pleasant to work with.
You get to try your hand at a variety of tasks.
Fridays are only 4 hours long.

    Cons

Upward mobility is difficult almost impossible.
Raises have to be Board approved and even then rarely come around.
The pay doesn't match the amount of work that is given to you.
Some of the management will do anything to protect their positions even if that means sacrificing one of their own.
The work culture doesn't foster teamwork but more of a dog eat dog mentality.

    Advice to Management

People should want to come to work not dread it. More thought needs to go into the treatment of employees.

    Pros

This is an agency where you have unlimited potential to learn and wear multiple hats. This makes professional development inevitable. The work schedule is good, 7:30am to 5pm M-R, and 8am to noon every Friday. They are flexible with your hours depending on your position. Most of the Board members are very friendly and helpful with providing resources they have. The employees are AMAZING. They are mostly Hispanic women. Everyone is friendly and usually stick together. There is a lot of opportunity to help people and that helps getting up in the morning knowing an impact is made from your work. Relatively easy to move up or laterally in this company.

    Cons

The COO sucks. She is extremely bright and intelligent, but has personality issues that takes away from her brilliance. She is not social. In a human service organization it is crazy that she does not speak to the employees, even a simple good morning.
There is also a lack of communication between different levels of management. Those that give directives don't communicate as much as they should with those that actually execute. This affects the success of some of the programs and lowers the moral at times.
Benefits are not that great. Even though you can learn so much, there is very little training. When hired there is a lack of an onboarding process. This can be addressed but everyone is so busy working, internal processes rarely get addressed. Raises are rare.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more between levels. Send COO to a workshop to enhance her people skills. Provide more and/or better training, especially for new employees.

I have been working at Family Service Association as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

FSA is a loving, informative, educational and rewarding non-profit organization. I have grown as person, as a nurse and as a coworker. Working here has given me a whole new outlook in giving back to those in need.

    Cons

Contracts end and hours decrease. Supplies are scarce and difficult to get due to limited budget.

    Advice to Management

Depending on position full time work is not guaranteed and so benefits are not offered.
