Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Pros

    Great people to work with. Everyone got a long great. Awesome place to talk sports. Customers generally were very nice to deal with.

    Cons

    Management sometimes had unrealistic expectations of sales. Holiday hours were a bit rough, as we were usually understaffed.

    Pros

    Very casual working environment, people are very friendly and the all managers are willing to help you learn and understand the business

    Cons

    Salary was a little low and did not match up with the cost of living in Chicago

    Seasonal workers seen as just another number

    Pros

    Co-workers were fun and easy-going, above minimum wage pay, some of the managers were nice and understanding (not all), good training, decent temporary gig.

    Cons

    Seasonal workers were seen as disposable. They claimed there was long-term opportunity for outstanding seasonal workers but almost every single seasonal worker was let go. The interviews and training took place within the main building, which was clean and modern-looking, but they had seasonal workers stationed in cubicles in the emptied warehouse in the back. Parking was several blocks away from the building so they had a school bus shuttle seasonal workers to and from the parking lot.

    The best and worst of retail

    Pros

    Other employees are fantastic and merchandise is great.

    Cons

    incompetent upper management and all employees are not only seen as easily disposable but also easily replaceable.
