I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best part of working for Farmers is the great people you meet while working there. The benefits are also very good, but the desire to be profitable, will likely lead to further erosion of these benefits.

    Cons

The Company is shrinking. Once the third largest P&C writer, the company set a goal of surpassing #2 Allstate. That goal didn't work out so well. Farmers is now the 7th largest insurer. Who knows if this is a temporary trend or the future.

    Advice to Management

    Stop the bleeding.

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance and other benefits on paper. PTO days and 401k matching is par for the industry but good compared to outside the industry. People are generally nice. This is not a bad place to work if you want to cruise to retirement and are fine with 3% annual raises and so-so annual bonuses.

    Cons

Benefits: Health insurance premiums and deductibles are high. Dental benefits are almost non-existent. HSA, FSA, etc. options are very difficult to navigate with little support from HR. Work-life balance rhetoric conflicts with reality of workloads.

Inclusion/Diversity/Advancement Opportunities: This is just a mess and all rhetoric . In reality, "inclusion" means token clubs for employees, time consuming "training," and measures imposed by a class action settlement. The result is that women and other diverse employees are mentored (so managers can tout their professional development pet projects) but not advanced. "Behavior based" internal interviewing processes includes a farcical pre-interview promotional campaign.

Work Environment: The company continues to move away from virtual / flexible arrangements towards face time requirements in open office (noisy cube) environments.

I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time

    Pros

They have good pay and benefits

    Cons

Where do I begin. First I moved out to California from Chicago to take a field appraiser position with them. I had no experience and during the interview, I was told they had extensive training. It's a lie!! The trainer was never there and some of the modules required role plays. Who was there to do the role play? Someone with now experience could've benefited from the role play. Then they sent me out with a mentor, and he was the rudest and unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. Stay away!!

    Advice to Management

Be more professional and improve your training.
