I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company with great people. There is a clear line of sight to the customers as well as to executive leadership. The company is focused on Customer Experience as well as Employee Engagement. What more can you ask for?

    Cons

Like many companies there is a "Global" entity that prevents you from doing certain things.

    Advice to Management

IT is doing well. Keep doing what you're doing.

    Pros

PTO starts at 19 days a year, then after 5 years it is 24, then after 10 years it is 29. Plus add an extra day to all of the above for your "floating" holiday plus all Federal holidays and then some. I'm getting 6 weeks paid vacation while some friends in other industries or other companies are only getting 2-3.

    Cons

Little ability to move up the ladder unless you are willing to re-locate.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

    Pros

Farmers is an education based company that focuses on educating their customers. Their product offering is often the best if people are willing to pay for the right coverage. Knowledgeable staff.

    Cons

Cost of insurance can fluctuate with any company, but rate increases can be hard to adapt to on an individual agency level.

    Advice to Management

Communicate changes well in advance to individual agents.

    Pros

Good Benefits. Great flexibility. Lots of lateral job opportunities. Easy to transfer to positions in other states. Casual work environment. Training and education.

    Cons

Huge problem with office politics and job satisfaction is highly dependent on your immediate leadership. Leadership constantly lies even about little things and they refuse to accept evidence contrary to what they say. Management is very top heavy and though they act like they are open to employee input you will be punished for input that does not conform to what management has already decided is reality. They expect you to follow even if what they tell you to do is demonstrably unnecessary, overly expensive or unnecessarily time consuming, or even unethical. They will ask much much more of you then they will give back. Expect leadership to take credit for your work.

I have seen people get demoted for reporting other employees sexual harassment complaints and get written up for their supervisors mistakes. If you are promised anything get it in writing as they have a habit of stringing you along then "moving the goal post" once you fulfill the requirements they place before you.

More and more job duties are taken from other positions and given to claims adjusters without increased compensation. Expect to have more experience and education than your leadership team. You will likely not get rewarded for accomplishments and promotions are more based on favoritism than knowledge or experience.

Middle management wants robots for employees and are overly concerned with protecting their jobs at the expense of others.

    Advice to Management

Advance people based on their fitness for the position, not whether they are your best friends. Be honest with your employees. Keep your word to your employees. Take responsibility for your own actions and stop scapegoating your employees.
