I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has great co-workers, public reputation, and a respected brand.

    Cons

You are working at a call center, so expect micromanagement.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Leads are provided for the Commercial insurance producers. Minimal lead generation required. Frequent work parties and regular drinking! Sometimes just a beer or two with a birthday party. Other times, shots, a walk to a bar or a drive to a brewery or two. Often times we'd drink for birthdays or holidays. Other times just because the owner is having a bad day. Either way, it was a fun job for drinking. Pay is alright and the owner is a nice enough guy.

    Cons

There's was little to no training available. Goals often unrealistic and shifted on a whim. If you don't have prior insurance experience this is a tough place to start.

    Advice to Management

Work on consistency in leadership style. Should probably limit or eliminate the drinking. Good for moral but bad for productivity and liability.

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule and 4 weeks of vacation from the start

    Cons

High turnover so each department is always understaffed, extremely high workload, management is sub-par to mediocre at best, it takes a long time to train for each position (1 year at least) before you are comfortable to do the job on your own

    Advice to Management

Hire and train people before we lose current employees, listen to and fix the concerns of the current employees

    Pros

Farmers is willing to take care of its customers at any cost.

    Cons

A huge amount of corporate bureaucracy, everything was difficult to do because of the huge mountain of red tape everything had to pass through.

I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great training for a new adjuster.

    Cons

Management cares very little about family life.
Very little room for advancement unless you are willing to re-locate.
    Very high turn over.

    Advice to Management

Saying that you care about your employees is simple lip service. Actions speak louder than words. I worked very hard for 10 years in the property claims department. I truly cared for your company and had a good reputation as a hard and knowledgeable employee. New management was brought into Phoenix from Kansas City. Moral plummeted because of the way the employees were treated. Concerns were voiced loudly and clearly. Upper management showed a concerned face, but the atmosphere grew worse. Take some time to see how your employees are feeling.

I have been working at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance and other benefits on paper. PTO days and 401k matching is par for the industry but good compared to outside the industry. People are generally nice. This is not a bad place to work if you want to cruise to retirement and are fine with 3% annual raises and so-so annual bonuses.

    Cons

Benefits: Health insurance premiums and deductibles are high. Dental benefits are almost non-existent. HSA, FSA, etc. options are very difficult to navigate with little support from HR. Work-life balance rhetoric conflicts with reality of workloads.

Inclusion/Diversity/Advancement Opportunities: This is just a mess and all rhetoric . In reality, "inclusion" means token clubs for employees, time consuming "training," and measures imposed by a class action settlement. The result is that women and other diverse employees are mentored (so managers can tout their professional development pet projects) but not advanced. "Behavior based" internal interviewing processes includes a farcical pre-interview promotional campaign.

Work Environment: The company continues to move away from virtual / flexible arrangements towards face time requirements in open office (noisy cube) environments.

    Pros

For the most part you are treated as your own boss

    Cons

Noncompetitive products and commission decrease. They will hassle you for production even though you are supposed to be an independent contractor

    Advice to Management

Agents built the company. Treat them with respect.
