I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most of the leaders in operations are incompetent starting at the top. It is a nepotistic world and cronyism . Lies deceit wastage of money one should learn from farmers. Horrible coo CIO and all IT VP's. Mafia rule of coo and CIO

    Cons

Worst environment . Contractors and employees in Simi Valley and woodland hills packed like a herd of cattle being taken to the abattoir . Horrible HR

    Advice to Management

    None as they are blind

I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some good people in the rank and file, but many are just in survival mode there for the benefits.....if they even have them (extremely high percentage of contractors).

    Cons

One of the most toxic environments (both managerial and work conditions) I have ever experienced in 30 years in the workforce. The IT department is extremely high percentage of contractors doing "regular" employee work, and a large percentage of that are H1-B visas. Pay is low compared to other companies. Very high turnover. No coffee....a couple of Keurig machines for every 400 people or so, bring your own K-cup. Verbally abusive management, most people just take it because they are afraid of losing their job. One of their office builds is very old and dirty, no kitchen, everyone sneezing because of obviously moldy/dirty carpet and who knows what other toxins. Office space is row after row of "Costco" tables with about 20 people at each table. Technology is antiquated, such as the copyright showing on intranet webpage has dates like 2009 and 2011 (it is now the end of 2015). Appears to be about 80% H1B Visa folks there. I could go on....but avoid this place if at all possible. Very shabby treatment of contractors.

    Advice to Management

Check out your management approach to handling people -- you have some major problems with managers not knowing how most effectively (and humanely) handle people.

I worked at Farmers Insurance Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Like I said, I loved the people I worked with. Some of them are now lifelong friends.
    * It's a large company and there's certainly room for advancement.
    * It was local to me.

    Cons

    * Management has no idea what they're doing. They're "market reactionary" instead of innovative.
    * Management played favorites
    * Management advanced individuals who produced large volume, and rebuked those who produced some volume but with higher accuracy.
    * Low salary
    * Major culture shift while I was there.
    * Management treated employees like children.

    Advice to Management

Actually do some market research, invest in the client experience, and stop treating everyone like children.

    Cons

There was not as such any downside seen while working at farmers group, but their timelines are very tight if compared.

    Pros

Good benefits and opportunites to move around within the company. Employees are generally satisfied and enjoy working there

    Cons

Very slow to change and when change does come it doesn't always make sense or is applied the same everywhere

    Advice to Management

Devise a plan, invest in it, and follow it through. Changing horses in mid-stream doesn't do any good

    Pros

Great benefits, collaborative environment and development opportunities abound. Technology getting better, but cost cutting obviously still in effect when eyeing office environment.

    Cons

Sometimes appears top heavy in terms of managers versus analysts/'worker bees'. Not always high pay for similar jobs, but benefits can make up the difference. Large, slow moving ship - do not look to be on the cutting edge of new technology, processes or marketing.

Performance is still key, but politics do exist - do not get caught on the outside looking in....

    Advice to Management

Knowledge sharing between workgroups still lacking, (i.e. new metadata center confusing and not intuitive,) and lack of 'basic training' within first few weeks for a new hire adds to learning curve.
