I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Full time employees get 40 hours a week. You get vacation/sick time from the day you start.

    Cons

Pay is low. Management is terrible. And upper management only cares about themselves and the bottom line, when a department saves money the manager gets a bigger paycheck. Management also cares little about their employees' advancement. Good luck getting a raise.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to pinch a few pennies to pad your paycheck.

I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a pay check and you'll learn about a lot of industrial supply products.

    Cons

If you get a crap manager it is extremely difficult to be successful. Don't always believe what managers tell you, as they don't Amaya have your best interests at heart.

    Advice to Management

A listening ear, patience, and the ability to help your employees become better each day. Don't have the attitude of "Do as I say, not as I do", it doesn't inspire confidence in you as a manager or a person and it not only brings down morale, but makes it difficult to want to work for the company.

I have been working at Fastenal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

401k, health insurance, good industry experience,

    Cons

Long hours. Locked into salary only with little room for commission due to new pay program. Growth or go. High turn over from outside sales to GM,Dm.

    Advice to Management

Employees will not continue to sell and not get paid for their work. With a mass exit of GM upper management may want to revise the new pay program.

I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you like work, you'll get it. 80% road time and yet docked for what goes wrong in the store... Some customers/facilities are really cool to visit.

    Cons

Everything. The job is a hoax. Fastenal's 24/24/24. Thats 24 years old, 24k a year, 24 months till you leave. All its good for is experience.

Margin system is completely bogus. Go ahead, Call and check prices on some Blackstone, Eaton, or Fastenal (bodyguard) items and notice the huge difference in which they claim the CoGs are. Its a scam and I think it's illegal.

    Advice to Management

IDK. how about you make available/tell your employees how they are to be paid. Just a shot in the dark.

I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Free training in product knowledge...and the bonus of a Christmas food box...what a joke.

    Cons

Terrible work to family ratio. DM's have no idea how to be honest or consistent. If you're a female you have no chance....they push you out.

    Advice to Management

Rethink your DM manager training and tactics.
Learn to value your employees and quit having double standards.

    - Commission structure is bad plus upper management steals your commission checks
    - Company is too cheap to hire support so you do like 3 peoples jobs
    - Insurance is bare bone and they don't even supply you with a vision option.

    Advice to Management

They need to clean house in upper management by far the worst I have experienced in my career.
