I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A little hard work will set you far ahead of most other employees and can lead to management very quickly.

    Cons

In 7 years the commission structure changed at least 4 times each time resulting in less money for the same amount of work. Many of the policies that hurt GM commission are out of the GM's control due to corporate agreements. Micro-managed quite a bit as a GM.

    Advice to Management

Find a fair commission plan and stick to it. Don't continue to take money out of the pockets of the people who are doing all the work to get the company where it is.
