I have been working at Fastenal part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Provided fair pay
Freedom to perform different activities and operations
Flexible work hours during the day
    Had a friendly work environment

    Cons

Did not provide much much room for upward movement
Inventory was very difficult track and was often unaccounted for because of the multitude of small parts and SKU's

    Advice to Management

Hire college graduates with some sort of business degree.

I have been working at Fastenal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Grow your own business with little to no oversight from upper management. Fast advancement. Strong company values with a heavy emphasis on teamwork.

    Cons

Overworked and underpaid. Every company directive is funneled down to the GM. The work-load is so heavy that it's difficult to make time to sell product and run a retail branch. They pay structure changes yearly and always has a negative effect on the General Manager's pay.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in employees and less in worthless IT improvements, company seminars, and videos.

I worked at Fastenal (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nights and weekends off.

    Cons

The downside to working at Fastenal is the sales process they go through. I know location matters, so the location I worked at in Fort Worth was awful. It was a smaller store and had no government accounts at all. They will guarantee you a great salary but then you get commission taken away if the customers do not pay there account..even if the account was previously with another sales rep before you started. The branch I worked at was in question of ethics, they had very shady sales techniques and did not keep customers in good prospective except for a few. If you want a sales job where you are out in the "field" from 8am to 4pm, then this is your job..You also need to be an expert at a million different industrial products..there are much better sales jobs out there.

    Advice to Management

Provide much better sales training at the BRANCH OFFICE, not just the HUB in Denton.

I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Freedom to work on your own. easily achievable sales goals. Easy to clock out and forget about work.

    Cons

The best person for the job isn't always promoted to that position.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to get rid of branch managers that aren't performing. I've seen too many branch managers run a store into the ground because they didn't know how to manage.

I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

*Flexible scheduling when I started as a part-time Sales Support.
*Room for advancement depending on your effort and availability
*Being willing to relocate can open more job-related doors
*Lots of opportunities for employees to expand product and company-related knowledge
*Commissions and product spiffs increase income

    Cons

*Limited support in growing accounts at my store as an Outside Sales Representative
*I was stuck cleaning up the bad relationships created with prospects and customers by previous employees
*No General Manager at my last store from Aug. '16 - Feb. '17. Employees who were capable and willing to do their job were obligated to 'babysit' those who were not.
