I worked at Fastenal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Provides basic entry level experience for someone directly out of school.

    Cons

They do not pay you a living wage for any of their jobs. When you are hourly, you make $12.00 an hour which is a impossible to live off of. Their sallary jobs force you to work atleast fifty hours a week and again you make next to nothing for your efforts $30,000-$40,000. This company is a stepping stone to gain experience in order to get an actual job and nothing more.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees a reason to stay with the company, the benefits are sub-par, the pay is horrendous, and the promotions do not pay enough for the time put in.

    Pros

Benefits, fellow employees, freedom of schedule, no weekends, promote from within

    Cons

Monetary compensation, Distribution support, Increased size has diminished once loved freedom of Managers, Headquarters location, Confusing chain of command

    Advice to Management

You would lose far fewer great employees if compensation was more equal to industry averages.

I have been working at Fastenal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-every business is a potential customer, everybody uses something Fastenal supplies
    -vending program is coming along
    -training is decent

    Cons

-turnover, in 1.5 years I've had two different RVP's, two DM's, two GM's and have seen 5 GM's in my district leave and even more OSR's leave. Too much turnover to keep a consistent relationship with major customers.
    -low industry pay
-selling high dollar products doesn't pay out any worth while commission. Only low dollar/high margin product makes you any money. Selling anything below 55% reduces your pay.
    -working 50 hours a week M-F (7-5)
