I have been working at Fayette County Board of Education full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Cons

Very hard work with little positive recognition

I have been working at Fayette County Board of Education full-time

    Pros

Amazingly supportive administration at my school. They work hard to provide the teachers with the resources we need to do our jobs.

    Cons

State mandated testing takes up a lot of instructional time. Although technology is a valuable teaching tool, students (younger ones especially) are having difficulty learning to use it responsibly.

    Advice to Management

Management does a good job of providing the support and training teachers need to be successful. Continuing to provide a positive supportive environment will help teachers support the next generation of students.

I worked at Fayette County Board of Education full-time

    Pros

The faculty and staff in Fayette County are, for the most part, bright, capable, friendly people.

    Cons

Fayette County's superintendent, Dr. JB, is an ignorant hayseed. We refer to him as "Dr. Mountain Man," as in Mountain Man from Duck Dynasty. The general consensus among long time Fayette County employees is that we are treated by upper administration as though we should count our lucky stars that we are so fortunate as to be employed by Fayette County Public Schools, despite being one of the lowest paying and hardest working counties in the state.

    Advice to Management

Resign and take the Board with you. Bring back Dr. Bearden.

    Pros

You have an abundance of resources. They have programs, technology, etc... You are allowed to bring your children if you live out of district. There are not a lot of behavior issues.

    Cons

Does not pay as well as surrounding counties. There is so much documentation that you will be taking work home every night.

I worked at Fayette County Board of Education full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the teachers and staff are truly there for the love of educating and helping students.
Loved the students and getting to know them and watch them grow and mature

    Cons

County office is very top heavy. Administrators can be condescending and micro manage. 4 schools were closed and hundreds laid off when the Superintendent and Board of Education asked for alternative cost saving measures from employees and the community and then did not implement any of the suggestions that could have saved jobs and not compromised the education of our children.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and constituents. The level of education and morale or the remaining employees will decrease significantly this year because sound advice and suggestions were ignored.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, time off. Lots of technology available for students and teachers to use. Teachers truly care about the students.

    Cons

Lots of pressure on teachers due to excessive testing requirements. Administrators assessing the teachers are often unfamiliar with the details of what they are assessing. Too many politics.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the needs of the children and less on your personal agendas.

    Pros

You have the Weekends off, you also have Holidays paid through the summer. Great for some one who loves working with children

    Cons

can be stressful at times, you have to be able to think fast on your feet and handle several things at one time. Must be able to deal with parents and students.

    Advice to Management

I really don't have any advice for the management, the job is what it is and you have to be ready for that.
