I worked at FedEx Office as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The move to the new building made interacting with other departments easier. Meeting rooms were plentiful and allowed for collaboration when needed.

    Cons

As a contract employee in a department that was very restrictive compared to other departments it was hard to showcase full skills and potential. Some departments seemed very willing to share information on upcoming full time positions and unfortunately in the department I was placed they seemed to look at you as competition rather than part of their team.

    Advice to Management

Open your communication to contract employees more than the polite hellos. Someone from the outside may be able to give an outsiders view of the culture that your full time vested employees are too wrapped up in everyday politics and job security to offer.

I worked at FedEx Office full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It's better than working in the fast food industry. Advancement is merit based and it's a good place to learn some basic prepress and workflow skills.

    Cons

Pay is JUST enough to not outright quit. Insurance was crap. Encounters are scripted, which was the last straw for me.
Kinko's was a company that cared about their customers, FedEx only cares about shipping. They bought Kinko's solely so they could have more drop-off locations and see the printing side of it as more as a bit of frosting, albeit frosting that they control with an iron fist. There's lots of needless corporate-induced barriers and tension.

    Advice to Management

Printing and shipping require very different kinds of customer interactions and have very different kinds of problems. Let your talented people just be their talented selves.

    Pros

Good people to work with, great team work, great flexibility, work-life balance. FedEx Kinko's has people that want to make a difference.

    Cons

Often takes time to get things accomplished. Some decisions aren't fully thought out, quick fix mentality. Communication is often an issue. Sometimes it takes awhile to get the right people involved.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the people, communicate across the board. Focus on ways to motivate employees.

I worked at FedEx Office full-time

    Pros

The co-workers and the regular customers who you can have a laugh with on a regular basis.

    Cons

    Employees are not trained properly.
Management knows less than most employees.
Outside hiring is given priority than internal promotions
The wage for the amount of work, skill and knowledge required is too low.
The staff is far too short staffed and if you walk in on a Sunday Evening you will see a ratio of 1 employee to 7 customers.
The job can get stressful if you are understaffed and have customers constantly trying to get your attention. It is highly much more stressful when you are a Project Manager.
The employee discount of 30% is less than what most of our account holders get (40% to 60% off)
Management does not hold people accountable for being late, missing shifts, or not following protocol when giving away shifts.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who actually know how to use a computer, management needs to be more informed about products, order entry, production, outsourcing, everything except greeting customers, because they are truly great at saying hello. Sit on a computer and learn to use PPA and order entry (the 2 main software used). Management constantly preaches to do the following yet they do not know how to do it themselves, and most have been there over 2 years.
