I worked at FedEx Office full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

FedEx Office attracts a certain type of worker, and generally if you are interested in working there you are probably one of them. There's a good chance that the people you work with will see eye to eye with you, will work hard to keep you from having to pick up the slack, will be amicable, and all around professional. There are exceptions, of course, but lazy and rude workers are less common. This is in part because the culture of the company encourages mutual respect between managers and employees, and as far as corporations go, you can feel comfortable that the company has your back. The job itself can be challenging, but for those willing to step up, it can be a great learning experience. If you engage with the work, you will learn a great deal technically, but also a great deal about leadership, teamwork and professionalism.

    Cons

The price of all that learning is relatively low pay. As far as retail goes, it pays well, but ultimately your job at FedEx goes above and beyond what the average retail employee will have to endure. If you go into the job with a lack of experience, as I did, the wage will work for you, but as you continue to excel and learn and become more accomplished, the responsibilities and expectations placed on you will continue to pile up, and your wage will not reflect that change, and will generally stay on the high end of the retail scale. when in reality you'll end up doing a great deal of work with different types of software, closing deals on $1000+ print orders, as well as producing them, packing all sorts of items and processing them for shipping, learning new policies every month and putting out fires every day. Among other things. The pay goes up the more you go up in the company, and the good thing is there are always a lot of great opportunities to do so. But the higher you go, the more responsibility and expectation, and the pay is already lagging behind what it should be- you probably need to hit district manager before you're getting paid what you deserve, and from what I've seen most people don't get past center manager.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employess more. They have two jobs, shipping and printing, and they're expected to do them both at 100%. They're expected to handle a great deal of specialized work, but are paid as though they're standing at the cash register all day. Or if you're not willing to pay more, spend more money on payroll so that you can hire more people. The people you hire like the job and are generally motivated to work hard, but are always going to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to keep up with everything, and inevitably dropping the ball, if you can't put in the investment to keep your stores running smoothly.

I worked at FedEx Office full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Laid back management, for an on-demand/on-time service business model. Monday - Friday.

    Cons

The best and the brightest have already bailed out. Transportation department within a print business is a dead end.

    Advice to Management

Best of success in your endeavors, luck will not be a factor.

I worked at FedEx Office full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Plenty of flexibility when I was there and was lucky enough to have managers that were helpful reaching your goals. Most customers were nice and coworkers were cool. Highly recommend as a starter position.

    Cons

The hours can be wonky and you can be by yourself for long periods of time with irate customers.

I have been working at FedEx Office full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits overall are great. Large corporate environment means overall stability, room to move professionally within the organization. Good managers offer GREAT support, training. If you like a fast paced job, this one will give you the adrenelin buzz you desire. You can come in and learn the print business quickly. Most of the time, employees are truly appreciated.

    Cons

Things are ALWAYS changing. As in, far greater changes, and with far greater speed than one normally expects. Management always has a 'flavor of the day', can be an extremely stressful environment. Turnover can be high if you have a bad manager. Fast pace can be extremely stressful, and WAY TOO MANY MEASUREMENT METRICS.

    Advice to Management

Pick a theme, and stick with it. Eliminating Kinkos was great for the FedEx Brand, but you threw away a perfect opportunity to co-brand FedEx Kinkos and pull the best from both - knowing you are trying to capture the corporate print spend as well as the retail print spend, you need both. Upper management needs to spend more time in stores, as an undercover boss -- to see what really is going on, what the stresses are really like. Like Undercover Boss, my guess is a lot of upper management wouldn't be able to do the job.
