I worked at Federal Government full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You'll know exactly what you'll be doing, and what repetitive work means. You'll know exactly what Pink Floyd meant by "The Machine" because you will be nothing more than a cog in the spinning, inefficient wheel of bureaucracy. Satisfaction of the job was in helping veterans, but because I helped too much I was down-sized out of my position and forced to resign. Yes, if you do not play the game, or are not the right color or gender you are always on the bubble.
Best part is not President Trump can clean house of the stench that exists in this machine. Too many employees are deadweight. They must go!

    Cons

Healthcare of full-time employees can be good, but only if you can afford the bi-weekly payments and the co-pay. All in all, not that great.
You never know, from day to day if it's your last day on the job unless you're in the "click".
Pay is lowest among all government entities, and expectations are some of the highest -- go figure.

    Advice to Management

Dump the constant and useless seminars and training modules. Complete waste of time.
Dump the insider promotions, we're all too wise to see this scam for what it is. Look out, for the Trump-Train is about to make a big change to your club. Lastly, if you're on top in the organization you'll spend hour, and days, in meetings and typing reports, and paid well. If you are working in any other positoin you will remain poor and disgruntled. Just saying.

    Pros

Earning an unliveable wage for a little while.

    Cons

Pathways Program is used as a dumping ground for jobs that can't be filled by regular staffing authorities or that federal employees refuse to do. After completing terms of the internship, very few students are picked up into full time employment leading to permanent federal careers which is supposed to be the purpose of Pathways.

    Advice to Management

OPM should be held accountable for the misuse and real results of Pathways.

I have been working at Federal Government full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security, advancement potential, breadth of experiences. Access to a wide variety of knowledge that is not available to the general public. Excellent benefits, ability to move between different federal government agencies relatively easily while transferring all benefits. Relocation potential either within an agency or through transfer to a different federal government agency Paid relocation is available only with transfer at existing agency.

    Cons

Bonuses are performance based and very subjective to whether you have a good supervisor, limited and small dollar amounts. They will not exceed $2500/year unless you reach Senior Executive Service (SES) status.

    Advice to Management

I am in senior management, not SES. I would suggest other managers treat their people well but I think that is already the case, in the majority of situations..
