I worked at Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco for less than a year

    Pros

Regular intern events and games (scavenger hunts, escape the room, etc) to help you get to know the other interns Scheduled networking events with employees from different branches at Fed, as well as several Q&A sessions with executive leadership, including Bank President Very nice location on Market Street, right next to Ferry Building On-site parking, gym, discounts on cafeteria Relocation stipend for interns coming from outside of Bay Area Personal mentorship program with employee outside your direct group Some interns (not me) had option to work partially remote Opportunity to interview for full time positions both for your group and for other groups, several interns I know received FT positions Automatic internship return offers for non-junior/senior interns

    Cons

Not too much work for my department specifically, but other groups had regular tasks Culture is really friendly, but can move slow at times HR can be slow sometimes in figuring out logistics (pay, background check, etc) but it's clear they put a lot of resources into this program so not an indicator of their general attitude towards interns

I worked at Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Job security, benefits (health and retirement), and respected by other financial institutions.

    Cons

Human resources and VPs of FISC allow horrible managers and directors to go unchecked when multiple complaints are reported, employees leave due to bad management, difficult to get a pay increase or recognition (you are expected to perform at the next level with no date in site for next pay upgrade), directors are rotated to different departments - wreak havoc - and then rotated out again, without getting a good grasp for the dept or its employees, and bad behavior goes unchecked for managers and directors while regular employees are called out for the smallest of things (i.e clocking in and out for non-exempt employees - if you accrue 15 min OT you are dinged by your manager, and other times they monitor badge swipes to see when you arrived and departed the building), but pay is POOR.

I have been working at Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits are great and pay is not bad.

    Cons

Where to begin?! Leadership is lacking, they don't even have experience in their own areas. So there's no real direction from them. HR encourages employees to speak up but they just care about engagement scores. Worst offenders of all! No real change except top management moves around and if they like you, you get promoted. You don't even need to know what you're doing. Those who can leave, eventually leave, so talent is walking out the door. Great managers are hard to find, bureaucracy prevents anything from changing and if you voice concerns it's swept under the rug. Waste of resources, especially when those are effective only get more work while the useless are just taking up space and spending money frivolously. Typical government that way. Office politics rein supreme here!

I worked at Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Excellent benefits. Great pension plan: includes health care. Great place to work if you're lucky enough to have good managers i your department.

    Cons

Great pension plan : top heavy organization, many people especially middle managers hanging on for the pension benefit despite not enjoying their job for the payoff at the end. The resulting politics are opaque and frustrating for employees. Employees DO NOT feel comfortable challenging bad management due to retaliation and bullying.
