    I have been working at Federal Signal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Challenging, and fast paced. Excellent people. Average team work. Company tries to improve Team work by handing out shirts that say team work.

    Cons

    Pay is typically significantly below market for comparable jobs in the same area for experienced personnel that have been with the company a long time. Medical benefits are decreasing each year and employee share increasing each year, but that seems to be the trend in most businesses today.

    Advice to Management

    Return to the true family values. Place more value on experience and loyalty. Medical benefits should remain a priority. Improve listening skills. Stop following the trends and lead.

    I have been working at Federal Signal full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great work/life balance
    Good benefits
    Acceptable pay
    Relaxed work environment

    Cons

    Just that my department (customer service) closes at 430p but I (just 1 person out of 5) have to stay until 6p. Not really sure why we don't all get off at 430p but I do mind the later schedule because I am able to "sleep in".

    Advice to Management

    So far management is doing a great job. No complaints

    Family environment with current employees minus all of the managers

    Cons

    NEW Management is not knowledgeable about the company and insist on doing their way which don't involve showing any appreciation or care for the employees, NEW management from the CEO down is driving the company in the ground. All the good managers are leaving this company like the plague. Unless you previously worked for either Motorola or Tell labs you will not move up in the company. The company continues to hire from the outside instead of promoting from within and training employees. The company doesn't have a career development plan for employee, so employees have a glass ceiling. Company has a serious problem with lack of communication. The company need to stop changing the organization every 3 months, stick to one plan.

    Advice to Management

    Clean house with all of the current management team, who don't listen to the employees who actually do all of the work and keep the business running.

    Pros

    My co-workers are very nice and the new $250k foyer is very pretty.

    Cons

    Used to be a pleasure working for them when long term managers were in charge who understood the business and knew how to treat people but not now. The empty suits now in charge at UP and Oak Brook are all leaders in name only who have alienated many employees with their corporate CYA attitudes, brown nosing and trendy buzzwords. It's criminal how a 100 year old, once great company has come to this. Many rumors of malfeasance by top management are rife in the company and many are planning to leave.

    Advice to Management

    Quit patting yourselves on the back and listen to your people. Stop piling 2 or 3 jobs on people when you don't replace terminated or laid off people.
