The 401k match could be more generous.

I worked at Federal Signal full-time

    Pros

    Longevity of Company, since 1901

    Cons

They will not go outside to hire any innovative people. Company sticks with insiders and is the epitome of the Peter Principle. Marketing Managers have no idea where the ‘field’ is located. FS has gone from a vertical Made in America company to one that sources off-shore and negotiates terrible pricing.

    Advice to Management

It’s too late. The company sold their building and now leases/rents. Overpaid for several companies in the past decade and had a fire sale to dump them. Clean house.

I worked at Federal Signal full-time

    Pros

    Professional management, aggressive growth plans.

    Cons

    Disconnected subsidiaries, unclear acquisition direction

    Advice to Management

Develop a more cohesive strategic plan that unifies the separate businesses.

I have been working at Federal Signal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging, and fast paced. Excellent people. Average team work. Company tries to improve Team work by handing out shirts that say team work.

    Cons

Pay is typically significantly below market for comparable jobs in the same area for experienced personnel that have been with the company a long time. Medical benefits are decreasing each year and employee share increasing each year, but that seems to be the trend in most businesses today.

    Advice to Management

Return to the true family values. Place more value on experience and loyalty. Medical benefits should remain a priority. Improve listening skills. Stop following the trends and lead.

I have been working at Federal Signal full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great work/life balance
    Good benefits
    Acceptable pay
    Relaxed work environment

    Cons

Just that my department (customer service) closes at 430p but I (just 1 person out of 5) have to stay until 6p. Not really sure why we don't all get off at 430p but I do mind the later schedule because I am able to "sleep in".

    Advice to Management

So far management is doing a great job. No complaints

    Pros

Job was fun. Good management that cares about employees. Would definitely work here again. Paid good too! Not much more I can say.

    Cons

Difficult to advance. Leadership sometimes doesn't recognize talent, sometimes doesn't recognize problems with poor performers. Work can be repetitive too.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to lower level employees
