I worked at Federal Signal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My experience in Federal Signal overall was pretty good. I got to learn a lot which catapulted my career towards a certain direction. Also, you will get a chance to work with many great people both in the office and factory floor. If you want to move up into a certain direction, you have the option. Oh, can't forget the health benefits.

    Cons

Compensations is not up to standards, they avoid giving you engineering title to save some bucks.

    Advice to Management

Try and be more consistent on your decision.

I have been working at Federal Signal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some fun people, some great customers, and an in-house cafe open most of the work day with freshly cooked food and a wide variety menu

    Cons

Change happens before the ink dries, especially with people hired from the outside who don't even know how things run or work at the place, people pass off responsibilities too much

    Advice to Management

Follow through with commitments and listen to people before making more blind and random changes and then listen some more for feedback on the changes, promote from the inside but not because you're buddy-buddy

I have been working at Federal Signal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people and the former family friendly culture which is unfortunately gone now.

    Cons

Upper management a joke, more concerned now with trendy buzzwords and other BS motivational crap. New female CEO and PSS Senior VP's are a both viewed as incompetent out in the field. We can't believe this is the best we can do. Many, many long time employees are planning their exit strategies since it feels like we've now hit the iceberg!

    Advice to Management

Really not much to say until promotions aren't granted based upon who's brown nosing who at Oak Brook. The real leaders are overlooked for those who spin the best BS. Amateur hour new female CEO is clueless.

I have been working at Federal Signal (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Look busy and you won't be bothered, nobody has a spine to discipline and when it does happen, nothing is really done about it, worse than high school.

    Cons

Management and engineering need to get their stuff together. Just because you have a bachelor degree don't mean you know the secrets to the universe

    Advice to Management

All new management and engineering hires need to spend time on the floor before setting loose. ME's will never be appreciated by waiving the degree mommy and daddy paid for in front of the guys who have decades of experience.

    Pros

Nice people to work with. Decent facilities but some show signs of age

    Cons

Buddy buddy system when promotions come around, Poor work condition leaving 80% of the work force looking for jobs, low pay. Leadership and organizational structure changes frequently, which also changes the direction and goals of the organization. Sometimes it's difficult to keep up with the change.

    Advice to Management

talk to employees before you make drastic changes.
