    Pros

Great training program for those without any insurance experience.

    Cons

Company is run like the Government with very little room for growth and employees are not rewarded for work product or creativity.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees to do their job and make sure to reward the ones who do a great job and don't be afraid to move on from employees who aren't carrying their weight.

I have been working at Federated Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ideal environment for individuals that are entrepreneurial and want to have their own venture without the risk of truly starting your own business. Off the charts pay as well as incentive trips

    Cons

VERY competitive - perform or give your opportunity to someone else type of culture. Long hours...but when you're enjoying competing...it doesn't feel like it

    Pros

Great training, supportive internal staff, good benefits. Perfect sales job for recent college graduate.

    Cons

Most days spent canvassing local businesses. Eventhough they sell commercial insurance, their big push is Life and Disability insurance, be prepared.

    Advice to Management

Be upfornt on the importance of Life and disability insurance to new hires

    Pros

Outstanding Company!! Pension plan is out of this world! Best contracts in the markets we serve. A+ company with A+ people!

    Cons

It is hard work, but the most rewarding thing you will ever do. That said, you will make a great six figure income (in the Marketing Rep role) to help local business owners protect the business they have worked so hard to build!

I have been working at Federated Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Set your own hours, you'll have the ability to set your own schedule and your hard work pays off. The training program is great and the support is as well.

    Cons

Cold calling! You're not always cheap and getting a customer base big enough to work off referrals takes a lot of time.

    Advice to Management

I'd take less of a base salary if I could be given 5 leads a month that I didn't have to cold call

I worked at Federated Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great training for sales and you will need it because you will be 20% to 40% high all of the time. If you can sell this product then you can sell anything.

    Cons

Marketing makes all of the money for the company but underwriting runs the place. The underwriters for the most part have never stepped foot out of Owatonna, MN but they control everything. Lots of tension and divide between the underwriting and marketing department when they should be on the same team. I think that Federated wants it that way.

Very political company. No matter how much success you have you better be liked by your peers and bosses or they will push you down. This stems from insecurities. If they view you as a threat to take their job then they push you down.

    Advice to Management

Be secure in where you are and push the good people up instead of down. Don't promote someone just because they agree with you all of the time. Find the people that have succeeded and have something to share or create and promote them.
