I have been working at Fenwick & West full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fenwick makes their staff feel valued. We're a busy firm and we work hard, but our contributions are recognized and valued as much as that of the attorneys. The people are great and there's a lot of opportunity for career development (lots of trainings and educational programs). The firm also makes diversity a priority. The building is beautiful (with some awesome perks - game rooms, bocce ball court, on-site gym) and the location in downtown Mountain View is awesome.

    Cons

Fenwick is busy, so we are busy. We can be stretched thin sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Continue holding quarterly Town Hall meetings - everybody appreciates the candidness and the opportunity to have all our questions answered.

I have been working at Fenwick & West (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fenwick is a very highly regarded law firm here in the Silicon Valley. The people they hire are high quality.

    Cons

They could be a bit more organized, and it would be nice if their name reached farther than the Silicon Valley.

    Pros

Collaborative work environment where you can easily walk from office to office for information from associates. Plenty of after work get togethers.

    Cons

The work can absolutely be dry and boring at times. The partners in the company are also typically "ghosts" around the office, only seen a few times per year.

    Advice to Management

More team building events to bring everyone together, from partners in the company down to the first year associates and or assists.

    Pros

A lot of perks. Many people are extremely welcoming and warm, even the attorneys. Good benefits and average pay.

    Cons

Some supervisors in the Billing & Collections Department run the Department with an iron fist. They act more like military officers and the Manager doesn’t like any sort of opposition regardless of how insightful or constructive it may be. The Department has a high turn over due to some difficult personalities. Also, they say is a permanent position, and that’s a huge lie. The position is a Temp to Hire and everyone in the Department will make feel (even go out their way) like you’re a temp,
Even after the 90 day probation period is over, they continue to give you performance reviews and threaten to fire you if you make one mistake!

I have been working at Fenwick & West full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a great firm! It has a strong culture and moves at a very fast pace. There is plenty of training for the attorney and staff population. The attorneys are generally very nice and pleasant to work with. The benefits are great.

    Cons

Space. They need more space. People always seem to be constantly shifting.

    Pros

Fenwick is a unicorn in the law firm world. World class clients and colleagues with a collegial open door culture.

    Cons

Compensation is not up to par with the demands of the work and the needs of the market. The numbers are not off by orders of magnitude either so it's not deal breaker.

I have been working at Fenwick & West full-time

    Pros

Generally good employees, top notch clients, a lot of growth, significant victories in litigation and strong transactional work, investment in infrastructure.

    Cons

Many associates complain about the salary and bonus structure in particular, which is opaque and does not seem to reflect contributions on the one hand, or shirking on the other. Different groups are managed very differently -- some are great, others far less so.

    Advice to Management

Management has its strengths, but does not take advice from employees. Always praise management, and do not offer advice or even damn through faint praise.

    Pros

Fenwick and West is the most inspiring company to work for - they keep you engaged with the newest trends in information technology and have a solid and challenging work environment..

    Cons

Work over load at times - staffed too short due to vacations and leaves of absence can have a profound impact on work load.

I have been working at Fenwick & West full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fenwick really tries to make people happy through events and happy hours and fitness incentives. The people are extremely welcoming and warm, even the attorneys. The overall culture is young and fun but it is still a a law firm.

    Cons

The middle management in this company has a lot of problems. In some departments, the management acts more like military officers and do not like any sort of opposition regardless of how insightful or constructive it may be. There is extremely high turn over as of late because of people being over worked and under appreciated. There have been plenty of red flags about several members of management but they are still working at Fenwick. If you are going to be working as a staff member here, I highly recommend not giving your opinion or input on anything, it will just get you into trouble.
