      Great beginning, stayed too long

      Pros

Ferguson offers such a wide variety of products, that you learn a great deal. They expect you to be the best in the industry, and offer trainings to help you get there. As a consultant, the commission pay is generous. You have tons of opportunities to meet, and work with the building industries’s finest suppliers.

      Cons

Although, the pay is good, they offer no type of documentation demonstrating that you are being paid accurately or fairly. There is no limit to what you are expected to produce. Your goal is unreachable. With that comes no work life balance. The calls, & emails are round the clock, and unless you have an assistant, you must work at home to not drown. That is the norm, and management does nothing to help or change the round the clock hours. Speaking of management, there is a high turnover in that department, and with every manager comes new promises that are never kept. They like to tout promotions, but during my long stay there, I constantly witnessed the qualified being passed over for the BFF. I would say that it’s a great first job, but most people get stuck there. I have NEVER seen a company with such unhappy employees as Ferguson!!!

Love the team, like the work, loathe the structure

      Pros

      - There are some truly great people in the department I worked alongside and under. - The benefits are solid, from health insurance to retirement contributions. - The work I did felt important, considering the declining appreciation and participation in skilled trades work. - The company seems to be taking sustainability very seriously, which is a plus.

      Cons

      - Management doesn't seem to take complaints or concerns from subordinates very seriously. - Change takes far too long, but management is happy to tell people time and time again "it'll get better...eventually." - If your position is newly created, good luck finding growth guidelines. - Never really felt like leadership was being 100% honest or transparent with people, leading to constant concern with ratings, promotions, etc. - You'll be told salaries are "market value." That isn't true. Many people are severely underpaid for the level and amount of work.

      Pros

Insurance, Great team, Opportunities to move anywhere

      Cons

Very concerned with impressing shareholders. Incentives are hard to come by. Concerned with Sales being at certain margins over completing actual sales.

Good company, great benefits but inconsistent management

      Pros

Great benefits like paid time off, health insurance and 401k. Hours are flexible for my position and I am able to work remotely. Several training programs and scholarships available.

      Cons

Management changes all the time and is very inconsistent. Credit department is moving towards a "national" team which makes the job more difficult due to our outdated system.

Great coworkers/boss, very understaffed, terrible internal systems and workload

      Pros

The College of Ferguson program teaches some handy skills, the veteran employees are both nice and helpful

      Cons

The work load for inside sales (at least at my branch) covers multiple jobs and creates a massive workload, in inside sales you are covering sales, purchasing and ordering, receiving, customer satisfaction and customer service, invoicing, order tracking, and in person sales. It does not help that some branches are horribly understaffed, with only 2-4 sales people covering all clients. The warehouse is also understaffed and sales people will often have to help in the warehouse as well. The internal system is a dinosaur, and adds a lot of time and effort to the large list of tasks you are given and often will be a source of issues more than it will help. The pay is too low for how much is being covered by so few people. Customers are both uninformed and aggressive, I have been personally insulted and aggressively pressed by customers for things out of my control.
