I have been working at Ferguson Enterprises full-time

    Pros

You have to get work early around 7AM which is nice because you miss all of the traditional traffic. You are also guaranteed 50 hours a week hourly, which 10 of those is 1.5x pay.

    Cons

Hard to have a personal life outside of work.

Big company so you will gain a lot of industry experience

    Cons

No opportunity to immediately move up in company, pay sucks for what you do

    Advice to Management

Be more relateable to those who actually do the work, and pay us more since we do everything for this company

I worked at Ferguson Enterprises full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

In the 10 years I was there I worked with some of the greatest people ever. Nice employee discounts, good match on 401k, once again the people you work make the job.

    Cons

It's who you know, not what you know. 50-60 hour weeks, very little appreciation given and upper management doesn't know the difference between being a great leader vs. just a manager. They lost touch with what incredible customer service is and how at one point it separated Ferguson from everyone else. Flat 1-2% annual increases and after helping them achieve record breaking years the bonuses are insulting to the effort that was given. You're made to believe you're not worth what you're paid and you should feel lucky to receive a 2% increase. There was a time I'd never leave that company for anything because I truly believed in their upper management and philosophy but how quickly things change when you become another AA #. Current and past associates will know what I mean by that comment.

    Advice to Management

Advice, make certain you're putting the right Area branch managers and Directors in place to lead properly into the new BMI world, because what I saw over the two years of transition, I and many others lost faith in the organization because of those poor choices. And never forget what took Ferguson to the juggernaut it is today...your associates.

I have been working at Ferguson Enterprises full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Sometimes there are prevailing wage job contracts. The Company has some decent benefits deducted from each paycheck. Vacation and sick leave available.

    Cons

Travel 50% of time minimum. Weeks at a time. Sometimes months at a time. No compensation while traveling when not on the clock, yet stuck in whatever town the contract is in until job is finished. Hard on family. Sometimes expectations from management exceed resources given to properly accomplish the job.

    Advice to Management

Don't promote people who have less experience than those in the field.

    "Typical large corporation"

    Pros

Large company with many locations, generous employee discounts.

    Cons

Corporate seems more interested in acquiring more companies than improving the functionality of existing locations. Most employee incentives have been removed, average raises are less than year over year actual cost of living changes.

BMI program roll out leaves unclear management structure in branch locations, the move towards a call center type structure negatively affects customer service.

Generally required to work more than a 40 hour week for whatever wage package they offer.

    Advice to Management

Provide clear chain of command structure for employees. Focus on fixing the operational inadequacies so branch locations can offer their customers timely accurate service.

    Pros

The pay is not horrible, but could be better.
Some of the people in the tech center are nice, otherwise you don't exist.

    Cons

Was hinted that there was a high chance of full-time employment after internship, manager has still not followed through.
If there isn't a meeting during the day, everything drags. Unless you are needed constantly, no one talks other than a passing hello.
Not much gets done on a day to day basis, which doesn't make sense because the hours are long.

    Advice to Management

Follow through on what you want, actually try to manage the people who work for you/the company.

I worked at Ferguson Enterprises full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great for relational sales
Reliable, if under market norm, income
    Some good managers
Very good benefits, including health insurance and 401k match

    Cons

Good old boy's club (largely sexit and racist depending on the department)
    Technologically stagnant and arrogantly technophobic
Business model going obsolete and management driving steadily towards cliff
    Terrible work/life balance and PTO
    Pay is not competitive
Majority of managers have no business managing

    Advice to Management

If you are going to survive, you need a massive overhaul. This company is an 80's company, and I can't imagine it being anything else.
