I worked at Ferguson Enterprises full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the things I liked about working here was the benefits. While vacation maxes out at four weeks, the company also offered paid time off, tuition reimbursement, 401k, long term and short term disability insurance as well as health insurance.

    Cons

The company took inventory twice a year. All employees were expected to participate. This was not optional. Many times the outside sales people would get "emergency" calls from customers that warranted their immediate attention.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time cross training and getting to know your employee's job needs. You should also study how much it costs to train new employees versus keeping existing employees happy.

    Pros

Good compensation, decent potential for career opportunities if one makes the right connections, job security

    Cons

To tweak a quote from "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly"-"You see, in this company there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with work life balance and those who work." Managers have the tendency to play favorites and favorites get all kinds of perks like being able to come in after 9am and leave at 4pm, the option to work from home, taking whole weeks for vacation, and having little supervision (multiple 20 minute coffee breaks, chatting with friends, and making personal phone calls every single day). Other employees are expected to work until after 6pm (even later than some of the managers) doing the bulk of the work with no breaks and little to no vacation while being micro-managed every step of the way.

    Advice to Management

Review current processes and the distribution of workload to address inefficiencies and reduce the possibility of burnout. For example, if one employee spends an hour each day sitting on top of another employee's desk chatting, maybe redirect some of the responsibilities from the employees who are drowning in work to those individuals.

    Pros

Good benefits, steady hours, good vacation time, opportunities to advance depending on being in the right place at the right time.

    Cons

Some associates take on a lot larger work load than others. It's hard knowing that someone producing a lot less in terms of sales could be making a lot more money than you. To many shifts in management/operating procedures. Some managers are willing to listen to what you want but it's hard to tell if it really means anything to them. Other managers just don't care about your future opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Give more to those that produce more.

    Pros

Fast Pace Environment, Decent Pay, Good Benefits, and Friendly Coworkers. Training from vendors was better than checking their specific catalogs.

    Cons

Horrible Management, Not enough training and Leadership needs to be better. Extremely long hours. Lazy field reps that don't take care of their customers.

    Advice to Management

You need a shakeup or a mass change. The company will run into the ground with your management teams.

I have been working at Ferguson Enterprises full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Its a job if you need one.

    Cons

Very unprofessional & dysfunctional work environment. Company under pays and over works. I spent 11 months in the management training program and was never promoted. Company long on promises and short on delivery. Company is sales oriented and does nothing to develop staff. Staff is highly stressed to multi task and perform other employees jobs. Location I worked in actually had 2 people quit during working hours it was so bad.

    Advice to Management

Loyalty is built through trust and communication, company has a bottom line to sell at any and all cost. Company lacks daily structure to perform daily duties and work environment is toxic. No set hours for lunch and no set time to go home for employees. While there I also observed management write off products from inventory and sell those products for cash to customers. Management would then use that cash to buy lunch for employees. While there I also observed the company mark up prices of its inventory 20-30% to increase profit margins and prices for items were not set across the board. Prices for items were contingent up on who you were as a customer and how much money you spent within the branch. Very dishonest people. Lies, deceit and dishonesty ran throughout this particular branch. I would not recommend this company.

    Pros

The people that work with the company a good people to be around. Everyone is willing to help everyone to make sure the right answer or item is determined. The training is good for new graduates that go through the training program.

    Cons

growth opportunity takes longer than some would like unless you went through the training program.

    Advice to Management

None that I can think of.
