Not so bad as a second part-time job...but that's part of the problem AKA the Gig Economy

      Pros

-Get to walk and play with dogs on a daily basis...I mean that's like an ideal job -Pet sitting cats for 30 minutes at a time, or even overnight (which is more uncommon) -Pay is alright ($11 per 30 minute walk or visit but hard to make a full-time salary per week) -Meeting some rather interesting people on the job

      Cons

-It's a gig economy job, so you're not really an employee more like a disposable contractor and there are absolutely no benefits. This is for people who like to "hustle" in order to pay rent. -In order to make a decent salary, you have to have back-to-back walks for at least 8 hours a day and it is somewhat difficult to plan and schedule all available jobs that might work for you on a daily basis. (this is true for any gig economy job) -Having to walk dogs in cold weather or the rain -Sometimes the owners or managers of Fetch! might call you asking you to do a last minute job and lay down some heavy guilt if you don't accept -Some of the pet owners are rich, pretentious yuppies who live in million dollar homes and think of you simply as the "person who picks up my dog's sh*t". -Some seriously untrained dogs you may encounter. Don't be surprised if you get bit or scratched. Some people just do not deserve to own pets.

      All about their bottom line

Feb 4, 2021 - Dog Walker/Pet Sitter in Schaumburg, IL

      Pros

Spending time with dogs and flexibility of schedule.

      Cons

Expected to drive in dangerous conditions to make customers happy even if you have unique circumstances. They charge the customers too much so there is never stable and steady income available. The amount they pay their employees is less than half of what they charge customers after taxes.

      Pros

It’s a simple job with a great staff of people. You can choose your hours and work on your own time. I highly recommend if you are a student with a lot of hobbies and just need some easy money here and there.

      Cons

There are no cons about this job

      Very mixed bag

      Pros

      - Many of the clients are great! Pets and people. - You have flexible windows of time to get to pets (2 hours), although some clients may ask you to arrive at specific times and can either be understanding or not so much if you can't make those specific times. - The app and its ability to send photos and comments to clients is very handy, as is the ability to look up client information on the go. Clients really appreciate well-written notes and nice photos, and it helps the client-sitter relationship a lot. - Pay's okay for what you do, although you're not paid for driving time/gas.

      Cons

      - Management will try to cross boundaries. I was hired for petsitting/dogwalking, but have several times had management try to talk me into doing what were essentially housework/pet training/pet behavior consulting jobs, outside the scope of my training and possibly my insurance/legal protection! When I didn't accept these jobs, other sitters were hired specifically to do them (without necessarily being told those clients would be likely their only clients). Unsurprisingly, these sitters have reliably left within months or even weeks (or a week, in two cases). - Extremely high turnover. I've worked with Fetch almost a year, but no other sitter has lasted beyond a few months. See above note! - You may be asked to walk dogs you feel unsafe walking. I've been dragged several times and told it's on me to figure out how to control the dogs and not get hurt. - You may be treated as though you're on call and can do jobs at the drop of a hat, including involved jobs like overnights or almost-overnights.
