    Increase salary to match average. Benefits are great, but they dont pay the bills.

    Pros

    Mostly good honest people to work with. Diverse.
    A good company for entry levels positions (but that's it).
    Very nice and large campuses nationwide.
    Can jump between departments if you want to make a change (but mostly horizontal movement that can last for years with no pay change)

    Cons

    The fund a accounting group methodology of work is one big mess of excel spreadsheet macros with errors written by very few people at Fidelity and hold the knowledge and responsibility of why/what this job is about. The rest just push buttons and fake it.
    If you took 1-2 finance classes in college you will probably learn nothing new to help you in the industry. The monitoring and problem solving skills learned are 100% based on troubleshooting of departmental chaotic/confused processes of using excel and/or internal softwares.
    Managers don't (mostly) have any managerial skills or passion to manage and do so in order to climb the latter. In reality, they are analysts who stayed at Fidelity the longest (or when everybody else left after 2-3 years).
    Those who leave (which is almost all employees except managers) do so after realizing they will never be able to support an adult life/family with the low pay (including all "unique benefits").

    In conclusion,
    To demonstrate the shortsightedness and focus on internal computer troubleshooting I will use this fact: Most managers and directors can tell you a lot about how to find a variance due to miscalculation of an Excel's spreadsheet formula but no very little to nothing about the stock market, bond market, and most importantly the nature of mutual fund investing.

    After a while it becomes a very sad, and discouraging, work environment.
    Not a long-term company for go getters

    Advice to Management

    Stop ignoring the elephant in the room and underestimating your employees common sense. There's a reason so many people leave Fidelity after a few years: All employees talk about is the low compensation and the fact they cannot start their adult life or build families (and the fact they can live with lack of opportunities if the compensation is fair).
    No one goes to school and get an analytical based degree in order to earn $40k a year (or $50k after 4 more years) unless this person is funded by someone else that makes more money than him/her and just needs a "job".
    You offer a lot of benefits but when calculation the bottom line dollar value it is not more (or at least not much more) lucrative than other employers offers.

    Is that really the culture you want safeguarding the trillions of dollars you manage?

    Benefits are one of a kind. Community environment promotes growth.

    Cons

    *Once you are hired, salaries are competitive but merit raises to existing salary is not desirable. You will need a promotion to receive any significant increases.
    *Company stack-ranks employees.
    *Company in some circumstances more concerned about cost than they do employees.

    Fully enjoyed my two internships with this company. A positive work environment and efficient training programs enabled me to excel in a corporate environment outside of my area of study in college.

    Cons

    Too much focus on the score that the customer gives rather than the quality of work that the representative provides. This can lead to "buying" a good remark from a client rather than doing what's absolutely right for the client.

    Advice to Management

    Recognize the representative better when he does a good job, even if the customer does not give a perfect score.

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule, easily achievable goals, bonus payed out quarterly, make good friends and the building is nice. Gym and cafeteria on site. Company Pays off up to $10k of student loans over 5 years time

    Cons

    Call center job, cafeteria food is not the best. Not to many things are bad with the firm. Salary is less than the industry average and difficult to get a branch position unless your willing to relocate

    Low average quality of engineers (a set of "superstar engineers" carry the teams)
    Technical leaders (SVP+) are not intellectually honest
    Technical leaders (SVP+) push their own agendas, they listen to their buddies not the people who actually know what they are talking about)
    Relatively fixed opportunities for advancement

    Fix your compensation structure

    Didn't get a chance to do what I was trained for before I was let go.

    If you want a specific role, ask for that role not something else. (Was trained as a QA and did nothing but SA and SE work)

    Pros

    Competitive pay, good work-life balance, and fantastic benefits, including a student loan repayment program, very thorough medical/dental/vision insurance, and an INSANE 401k match (7% + 10% profit sharing)

    Cons

    Can be a little bureaucratic at times. And they rely too heavily on staff augmentation firms to fill the ranks

    Advice to Management

    Hire less temporary employees, a lot of them are useless and don't move the ball forward at all
