    Pros

They pay well, but there aren't a lot of perks beyond that.

    Cons

Management is pretty unstable. You get penalized by being moved to groups you don't want to work for. They aren't afraid to fire or lay people off.

I worked at Fidelity National Financial full-time

    Pros

For attorneys, the work can be interesting and is mostly independent. There are some opportunities to travel for claim matters.

    Cons

In Omaha, the impression was given that people were promoted and/or hired for senior positions more on the basis of personal relationships with department management than their knowledge, skills or ability related to the job. Indeed, several of the ‘managing counsels’ were considered by their subordinates to be incompetent and were unwilling to listen to subordinates who had much more experience than the managers had. It seemed as though the key to advancement was not work performance but currying favor from senior staff.

    Advice to Management

Stop firing your best people to make room for your buddies. Stop making people managers who have little to no claims handling experience. (Or, if that is or was not what was going on, make promotion decisions more transparent and demonstrate how people who are promoted to senior positions are particularly qualified over those who were not by providing detailed analyses of their work product compared to the junior attorneys. Not only would there not be such a negative impression of management’s bases in promoting, but junior attorneys would have a realistic chance to improve.) Finally, let claims attorneys rate their managers and quality assurance attorneys and use that feedback to make changes.

I have been working at Fidelity National Financial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The ability to work with new technologies if you are in the right business group. Coworkers are great people to work with. Benefits are good and the costs are reasonable

    Cons

Many managers have their own agenda and some could care less about their employees. Some managers have a very condescending attitude towards their direct reports. The attitude is just do the work and do not ask questions.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to get involved when there is a toxic manager. When there is a manager like this, upper management is slow to respond to the problem which results in high turnover in certain departments

I have been working at Fidelity National Financial full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Death-marches are rare. Micro-management doesn't seem to occur unless there are obvious trouble signs on a project. Groups are able to keep up with current technologies if they choose and doing so doesn't impede support of business goals.

    Cons

IT rarely gets bonuses, but IT faces fewer lay-offs during down-turns in business volume.
They don't do annual performance reviews, so the topic of raises usually doesn't come up unless you bring it up.
There is no obvious path into management, if you're not already "in."
Org chart? We don't need no stinking org chart.
