I worked at Fifth Third full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This large company offers many perks and benefits smaller companies cannot offer; resources for community outreach, tuition reimbursement, decent benefits packages, transfer opportunities to other cities and states, and room for growth.

    Cons

Because this is such a large company, the retail staff has little to no input on how operations, policies and products should work. FifthThird does not have a system in place to make sure the "little guy" is heard.

    Advice to Management

Some large companies have resources accessible to all employees for suggestions, then they actually respond to and acknowledge the requests.

I have been working at Fifth Third full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is good If you are an out side hire and negotiate your wage. Benefits are great and you can meet some incredible people with experience and good intentions. There is so much potential for this to be a promising career and great company for its employees and customers.

    Cons

Sales is sales. You will be making many "cold" calls. You have very strict quotas and the pressure from upper management is no longer providing tools and knowledge for co-workers to succeed but a turn and burn mentality. What attracted myself was the push on team and integrity. I quickly found out that it is not the case. unfair and unethical practices are abundant and management does not turn a blind eye but has a see no evil hear no evil idea that's enables this behavior and provides plausible deniability from upper management. Last thing, lots of downsizing. That is a reputation that will forever carry with this company.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the customer like internal and external marketing states. Goals or necessary but listen to the employees. And ask for honest feedback on the tactics of those goals. The potential is there if you listen.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Fifth Third part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a good starting wage for someone that has only worked for minimum wage.

    Cons

Sales focus get in the way of customer service, it's annoying to try to sell everyone that comes into the bank something. It's also very difficult to get customers to "sit" with a banker to "have the conversation" (translation: sell the customer services) when the bankers will not see customers right away. You will have to call customer to come into the bank, this is something bankers should be doing, you might mistakenly think this will lead to a promotion, it won't. If you want a promotion, you will probably have to look outside of 5/3. Also, since there is such a focus on sales, managers will sell themselves to you all the time. My manager will give compliments such as "blank did this, but I was the one that did most of the work."

    Advice to Management

Find a way to get bankers out of their offices. When bankers sit behind a desk glaring at customers rather than helping them, customers leave. Sales are great, but it gets in the way of teamwork, the management style is outdated and BCs would reach their more if employees worked as a team. Also, do a better job at selling the company to the employees, if they became ambassadors of the company, they wouldn't act like salesmen. Customers would believe in what they selling.
