I worked at Finish Line full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great energy and always busy

    Cons

Undervalued employees. Underpaid for the amount of work required. Very male dominated and not female focused.

    Advice to Management

Value management better and allow them to have a balance of home and work life. Working on the weekends takes a lot of time away from families and makes it difficult to stay energized at work. Allow more flexibility with schedules.

    Pros

The best thing about Finish Line is the discount on merchandise.

    Cons

They tend to pay management on the lower side of retail, more similar to fast food. They have a very high turn over so it makes networking difficult.

I have been working at Finish Line full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Connecting with different types of people
    - Leading a team
    - Not many

    Cons

    - Retail
    - You're selling shoes, and after a while, you think you're selling a cure for cancer the way management pressures you to get a sale.
    - No incentives; basic/low bonus program for management.

    Advice to Management

Bring back commission to increase sales and the drive, or cut the crap and chill out. Not many will sell shoes for min. wage with no incentive!

I have been working at Finish Line part-time

    Pros

It's a chill work environment. The employee discount is good, 30% even added on top of the current sales price. Most of the time, the team is cool.

    Cons

Underpaid for the amount of work expected out of the job.
They took away commission on shoes, you only get commission if you try to con customers into signing up for a trial of Sports Illustrated, or sell cleaning kits and insoles. No one wants to be signed up for Sports Illustrated, and a lot of people already have kits and/or insoles so they wouldn't want more every time they go buy a pair of shoes.

    Advice to Management

Stop picking favorites, and think about how that affects the other members of the team. Give hours equally to receive fair results when selling.

I have been working at Finish Line full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    -discount
    -freedom to merchandise
-ability to make decisions to help customers

    Cons

-upper management is disconnected from employees
-pay for sales associates(demand to much for minimum wage)
-to many changes with leadership from district managers to regional managers
-labor budgets(to small demand to much with no labor)
-development of store managers( not enough time spent training individuals given stores and they are not ready)

    Advice to Management

-better wages for sales associates. Can't keep good employees paying minimum wage.
-stop realigning districts to many changes with district managers makes it to hard for them to train and help stores.
-product selection (feed stores that are selling products do not focus on high end malls)
-drive consumers back to stores run specials in store instead of online only.
-get back to the basics focus on performance shoes that we build the company on
