    Pros

    30% discount
    great coworkers become lifelong friends
    flexible hours
    good teamwork

    Cons

not the same selection at every store, the store you may work at may be low in Jordan apparel and shoes almost zero to no retros then you go to one in the city that has everything.

low pay for sales associates with high standards and expectations

not much of a social life if your a good seller

if you get promoted don't just assume youll be promoted you have to follow up and nag them until they complete the process through the system and get you through your training or they'll have you running the store open to close for $5 plus commission or minimum wage on a slow day

felt like I was in high school with all the drama

    Advice to Management

become better leaders rather than just managers. and lead by example.
cooperate needs to up the base pay for all they expect out there associates. especially during holidays where most just take there losses and leave which explains the high high turnover.
the stores are the distribution centers corporate expects stores to ship 200+ shoes during holidays, spring, back to school, end of season and sell within the store along with cleaning and upkeep within stores. the associates are basically running the business

    Pros

Fun, up beat environment. If you like shoes and talking to people this is a nice place to be. Flexible schedules and decent benefits..

    Cons

Micro managing. Commission based for sales, not a place to make good money. Forced to sell other products other than shoes and clothes. POLITCIS for management, its not what you do its who you know, or likes you. Constant manipulation, Everyone is replaceable, no employee appreciation, its a matter of time before you quit or get fired. No one retires from here. All fun stops when you get promoted into management.

    Advice to Management

Focus on taking care of the people who make you money everyday. Appreciate employees who have given their time, life, bodies, energy, and youth to your company. Happy employees, happy customers, in that order.

    Pros

On site fitness facility and classes at corporate office. Employee store discount. Most of the people are wonderful. If you love fitness & sneaks, this is the place for you.

    Cons

Continuous IT leadership & reorganization makes it difficult to build the necessary relationships to grow internally. This leaves talented staff no choice but to look elsewhere for career advancement.

    Advice to Management

Commit to a structure, pay industry standard, promote from within, respect and listen to the IT professionals you hired.

    Pros

Obliviously store discount is a plus , seeing exculsive shoes first , and great interaction with sneaker fans.

    Cons

Management is too close minded, shady sales tactics lead to a poor competitive nature , trust issues between staff, Jordan releases are done improperly ( Store Manager takes bribes) , Co-workers have suspect out of work relationships and too many lazy AMs/ Sales Associates . Not many hold high moral value and/or self respect .

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the AMs with "power tripping" issues and store manager needs to hold up to a higher moral standing. Finishline as a whole could use a better marketing plan such as the one at FootLocker .

I have been working at Finish Line full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cool product and very hard to get terminated working here. The H.R. dept. gives you a never ending amount of second chances. Entry level management. Pay for managers is decent for what you are responsible for.

    Cons

The performance managing of store managers is comical. The company has trouble and lacks the process for replacing managers that shouldn't be in position.

Senior management (Regionals) only put people in place that they "like" and the ones who are kiss ups with a "rah rah" cheerleading mentality, not the ones who have proven they can run a great operation and develop great people. Company has changed for the worst over the last 3 years with the changes/hiring at the senior management level. The company's culture has changed and the decision making has become disappointing.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that people in senior mgmt roles. (District Managers) are trained before they are promoted. They affect hundreds of employees for the corporation. Hire field executives that truly care about people like we used too. Enough with the "rah rah" chearleading and lets get back to being business owners.

    Pros

Have money to spend, and will spend it
    Good people

    Cons

Too many 'leaders' trying to make a name for themselves
Lack of work/life balance not addressed in critical IT positions of the company (while others in IT come in late, leave early, and take 2 hour lunches to get their workout in).
Relationships with consultants prioritized over FTE's

    Advice to Management

Stop talking, do not assume that everyone prior to you or below you is dumb, and start listening to your staff...you might learn a thing or two.

    Pros

Decent benefits and relatively easy work - but the cons greatly outweigh the pros. Great experience into what is corporate culture.

    Cons

The most micromanaged I've ever been at any company. Very little room to grow. Below average pay for the amount of work expected, though for some the work itself may come easily. IT department may be the least innovative I've ever seen. Over 40 employees in the IT dept. alone have left in the last 12 months, with 15 being at the director level and higher, including the CIO.

    Advice to Management

Get your stuff together, this IT department is going nowhere - fast.
