I worked at Finish Line full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great energy and always busy

    Cons

Undervalued employees. Underpaid for the amount of work required. Very male dominated and not female focused.

    Advice to Management

Value management better and allow them to have a balance of home and work life. Working on the weekends takes a lot of time away from families and makes it difficult to stay energized at work. Allow more flexibility with schedules.

I worked at Finish Line part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good co-worker environment
    - Nice discount

    Cons

    - Intense sales expectations are often unreasonable

    Advice to Management

Be more reasonable about meeting sales metrics. Also don't foster such an inauthentic environment where employees are forced to sell products that customers don't even need.

I have been working at Finish Line part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Finish Line really pushed my capabilites. The management staff really wanted our employees to want to work. It was a fun environment. It was definitely different because the mall we worked at was a tourist attraction, so we met all sorts of people from tourists who don't speak a lick of English, to celebrities that are very well-known. Meeting all the cool people was probably the best part about it.

    Cons

Some bad experiences I've had with The Finish Line, is outside of our immediate management staff, upper corporate management ONLY cared about our numbers, and if we didn't hit our numbers, it would be our fault. The only problem with that was like I mentioned, we were in a tourist mall. The majority of our customers did not speak English so we had a language barrier and we have lost some customers due to it, but we tried our best to find ways around it. When we tell upper corporate management the issues we're having, instead of helping us find a way to work around it, they just told us: "You guys just need to keep pushing then, no excuses." It was rough but we did manage to work around it, but it would've been nice to receive some help.

    Advice to Management

When an employee comes up to you and describes their issues, please know that they are coming to you looking for some kind of guidance.

    Pros

Freedom to hire train and develop talent. Good benefits and awesome perks/bonuses for high performing managers.

    Pros

The best thing about Finish Line is the discount on merchandise.

    Cons

They tend to pay management on the lower side of retail, more similar to fast food. They have a very high turn over so it makes networking difficult.

    Pros

    - Connecting with different types of people
    - Leading a team
    - Not many

    Cons

    - Retail
    - You're selling shoes, and after a while, you think you're selling a cure for cancer the way management pressures you to get a sale.
    - No incentives; basic/low bonus program for management.

    Advice to Management

Bring back commission to increase sales and the drive, or cut the crap and chill out. Not many will sell shoes for min. wage with no incentive!
