Pros
There are a lot of amazing people with tremendous talent who work at First American. I enjoyed the personal and professional connections I made during my time with the company. Unfortunately, many of these people are over looked for promotions or leave on their own because they are not recognized and valued as much as those who have connections or are related to the management team.
Cons
Nepotism runs deep within this organization. If you take a look at the org chart, you will see how many of the executives and senior leaders are related. There are several senior leaders who were put into their roles because they did a good job of rubbing elbows with the big decision makers, and more qualified candidates are overlooked because of this. The company has done a good job at bringing in top talent, but has not been able to retain them for more than a year or so. People who bring new ideas to the table and who are not “yes” men will not do well here as the company does not like change. For being a “technology” company, the technology is more out dated than any place I have ever worked. Equipment is old, business practices are old, and the payment technology they are selling is outdated far beyond its competitors. The company has a reactionary mindset towards almost everything that they do. Employees have to pay $10 a paycheck to wear casual attire or jeans to work. They consider this part of their Heart Threads program that gives back to the community, but employees have no say in where the funds go. Employees are not told how the funds are distributed outside of the contributions to the Tarrant Area Food Bank and Cook's Children's hospital. Something doesn't add up. Layoffs happen often so there is no sense of job security or stability. COVID layoffs were done as what seemed to be a knee-jerk reaction and some of the very top, talented people within the organization were let go while other under-performers were still employed.

I've been working for First American for years. I love the atmosphere. The management team is friendly and very supportive. The benefits are generous. Considering the cost of insurance these days, I'm glad to have coverage and I love that we have an HSA option.
Cons
The no raise issue the last few years will continue to come up with every employee that has been affected. It is hard to bear not having a standard of living raise each year but I do understand the overlying reasoning. Hope to hear differently in the coming months.

Great opportunities if you are a very fast learner.

There are always opportunities to learn new skills or to advance. Schedules tend to have some flexibility. Atmosphere is very positive.
Cons
Pay is only good if you are constantly changing positions or have the right manager to fight on your behalf. If you stay in the same position, you'll be lucky if you get 2% increase each year (a good manager will give you an extra raise called 'a marketability raise') Training is something left to be desired. Almost all training is reactive. So, be prepared for lots of 'constructive criticisms'. Only fast learners will find success. In most cases, your opinions and ideas for improvements don't matter. You have to be in a small department with the right management team for that type of environment.

Pros
This organization walks its talk. There is excellent collaboration both within and between departments. The management team is a cohesive leadership unit that exudes humbleness and approachability. There is also a culture of open communication that permeates from the top down, and it makes a tremendous difference in the relationships between supervisors and employees. This in turn fosters a high level of engagement and work quality from employees. Growth opportunities are abundant.
Cons
I have no cons; this has been one of the best places I have ever worked.
