I have been working at First Busey full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great company with a terrific culture. Growing organization which offers a rewarding challenge to folks who are looking to contribute. 150 Yr old organization which still feels young at heart and optimistic about where the company can go. Sr. Management accessible and willing to hear where there is room for improvement and will act on it. Great group of people who deeply care about the 4 pillars (Associates, Customers, Share Holders, Community) of the company, it is not just lip service.

    Cons

Healthcare benefits have room for improvement.

I have been working at First Busey full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to work for! Good benefits and great people to work with. Company genuinely works hard to meet the needs of its four pillars: Associates, Shareholders, Customers, and Community

    Cons

The diversity of it's employees dwindles the higher up the corporate ladder you go. This is probably the same for most large corporations.

I have been working at First Busey full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for movement through and up the company. Hard work is rewarded. Intelligence is recognized. Top performers are properly compensated. Consistent pay growth. Most benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Many initiatives don’t support all associates. Many initiatives die very quickly. Culture is inconsistent throughout the company. Base pay is low. Health care is mediocre.

    Advice to Management

Focus on reducing costs. Eliminate dead weight from mergers. Hire for culture, and hold people accountable for treating other departments with respect. Show that no department is more important than another, otherwise state that one is.

I have been working at First Busey full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Seemed to be organized and professional.

    Cons

There is a sickness moving through Busey. A great deal of initiatives are useful, but are not take to heart by middle management. Change is made for change's sake rather than meaningful impact. I would not work at Busey again, not even if they Promise anything. In my experience the promises they make are seldom actioned.

    Advice to Management

Clean house, find a way to eradicate all of the employees that are still partisan to mergers and acquisitions of years past. These disrupters are not worth the effort and have proven they are not willing to adapt to meet the new Busey. Van and other C level people have pretty flawless visions of a fluid, evolved Busey. However, when the profound programs are rolled out at the middle they die or become misguided.

I worked at First Busey full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Busey has great people. Co-workers are friendly, helpful, and engaged. Working with customers is a great way to learn banking and financial sales. There is a matching 401(k). There are opportunities to learn, become a leader, and receive incentives.

Busey has a nice culture. There are perks available including vacation, sick, and personal time.

If you are skilled at inter-office politics, you can advance into higher level roles.

    Cons

It was my experience that Busey pays low and does not negotiate the base wage. Your annual raise is determined by the corporate board without regard to your personal performance. Most bankers I knew do not receive an incentive, so base wage is very important.

From my experience and seeing others, it takes a very long time to be promoted, and there is a strong culture of favoritism and being "liked" by management. Being liked is more important than making the sale's numbers, and being liked involves a certain level of "sucking up" to managers. If you are liked and make the numbers, there's a very good shot at promotion to a manager after a couple of years. If you are liked, but don't make the numbers, you still have a good shot at promotion. If you make the numbers, but are not well liked, you have less of a chance at promotion. And if you do not make the numbers and are not well liked, well, you will probably never be promoted.

The healthcare benefits are high deductible plans.
