I have been working at First Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible for the most part

    Cons

Pay is very low, and is therefore there's not much quality from employees. Most employees are not qualified and there's basically no training.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay, hire knowledgable staff, create a training program for the whole company.

I worked at First Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    They have Starbucks.

    Cons

Micro managed like you have never experienced before. Unstable even for telecommunications and absolutely zero support. The manager for the Akron account executives is a bumbling fool and has zero training in the company and managing people. Run don't walk if they reach out to you for an interview. The turn over is ridiculous with no change in site.

    Advice to Management

Sell to the highest bidder. This company is outmatched in every way.

I have been working at First Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Umm, not sure but it's a paycheck and the office has hvac.

    Cons

Lack of direction, lack of trust, customers screaming all day and night. Technically advanced sales reps still get micro managed. You'll need to lock up your personal items since they seem to disappear when I'm out on calls. Mistreatment, and lack of trust throughout the company.

I worked at First Communications (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people. Good direct manager. Flexible hours. Moderate effort to bring the infrastructure into the modern era. Moderate resources if you can find them.

    Cons

No opportunity for growth. Upper management is disconnected from the support teams. Advanced technical skills are not recognized or rewarded. The persons that know the infrastructure are very reluctant to share knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Cultivate talent. Do not suppress it.

I worked at First Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small/lean supporting teams that can be agile and flexible at times to get the job done.

    Cons

    - Company appears to be focused on cost cutting in order to appear profitable to position themselves for a buy out.
    - No training programs or much effort given for new hires in any department
    - Gradual lay offs impacting morale and work life balance
    - Heavy turnover in Sales has caused customer relations issues and stalled revenue

    Advice to Management

Your best assets are your employees, happy employees = happy customers

I worked at First Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent Pay, Nice offices, People are great for the most part

    Cons

Agents, Sales and account managers all work on the same floor. There is no visibility as to who or what everyone is working on. Sales can only call on brand new accounts but you don't know who is a customer and who isn't. This leads to awkward conversations with customers and harsh discussions among your peers. There is a TON of cold calling via the phone and there is one entire day designated to do nothing but. They take micro managing to new heights. It is very much an entry level sales position, and the level of technical knowledge with the exception of the engineers is average at best.

    Advice to Management

When hiring people with extensive expertise in the industry-let them do their job without the micro management. Utilize the latest technology to communicate with potential clients as opposed to 1980 sales tactics.

I worked at First Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment. Very progressive and thoughtful CEO. Would still be there if did not have to move. People were inviting and got along well and with coworkers. Not originally from the midwest, but definitely felt that midwest niceness in its employees. Good pay but even better benefits with very affordable medical coverage. Were interested in investing in systems to help employees improve their performance.

    Cons

Not a ton of locations so if moving cannot expect a transfer.

    Advice to Management

Keep with your current path and you will continue with your success.
