I worked at First Community Credit Union (TX) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I honestly wish there was something positive to say but sadly there isn't. I worked at other credit unions and unfortunately this is NOT a credit union. They are more of a BANK. If I could give no stars I would.

    Cons

Like most reviews here stated about family members working within the credit union, it's true. It wouldn't be a problem if they would just treat everyone the same. Unfortunately they don't. Some bank fees don't make sense whatsoever and makes it extremely uncomfortable charging members for it. This is more of a bank than a credit union. Asking for vacation time good luck, it's like they expect you to just live for their credit union. Reality check, people have a life outside of work and sometimes we want to take our vacation time to spent it with them. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get time off. Trainers oh goodness where do I start. The last time one of them was active at the teller line must have been in the 90's. I couldn't go on and on but I would never finish my review. If you still want to apply with all the warnings given to you by the past reviewers, all I can say is good luck my friend you are going to need it.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiding in your office and go handle the situation with members before it escalate further. Also back up your employees, it's a team effort if you want this company to succeed.

I have been working at First Community Credit Union (TX) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a great and organized work environment and we are all family yet still professional. Overall great experience being able to work with this company.

    Cons

Pay is fair. Takes a while to move up to a higher career opportunity such as accounting. Very low turnover rate which is in turn a good thing for the Accounting department.

    Advice to Management

Great management and advising. Managment provides training for future career goals. They care about their employees, keep up the good work!

    -Low pay

    Focus on your employees more!

I worked at First Community Credit Union (TX) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

None I guess the 401K plan is pretty good.

    Cons

There is a very high turnover rate, you barely get to know someone hired and they are gone. Long term employees leaving like the building is on fire. No management support, they lock themselves up in the "executive area" and you never see them again. CEO doesn't even attend staff meetings all the time. Nepotism runs the show there are relatives of executives all over the Credit Union. More of a servant master type environment. Male dominated management and executives.

    Advice to Management

Show some appreciation to the employees who have made you what you are. Close the gap of separation and thinking you are better than everyone else. Walk among the "little people" and remember your past.

I worked at First Community Credit Union (TX) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are no pros, this site made me give at least one star or I would have rated it ZERO stars. Pros would have to be that the building looks nice.

    Cons

Management is powerless and will do nothing to solve any problems. favoritism is rampant. HR reports to the CEO so they are powerless, and if you think about reporting problems with any managers to HR be prepared to be fired and escorted out. Don't get sick because they'll be forcing FMLA down your throat at the soonest opportunity and then showing you the door. Salary is the lowest pay in Houston, TX and don't expect a bonus, the executives collect all of those. No room for growth. Managers don't appreciate their employees. The health benefits get worse and worse every year.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to get a backbone and get in touch with their employees. HR needs to act like a HR department should and be the employee's advocate, not the CEO's lapdog.
