I worked at First Financial Bankshares full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Strong financial performance
    Profit sharing and ESOP
    Some really good people/coworkers

    Cons

Pay is below market if you have been a long-term employee
Top executives believe they are the only reason the company performs so well
Top executives will hire from outside before promoting from within

    Advice to Management

Check your egos and trust your people
You are losing the loyalty once enjoyed because your people don't trust you anymore

I have been working at First Financial Bankshares full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Industry leader with enormous potential and growth opportunities. Excellent room for career advancement And experience in banking. Great place to work.

    Cons

Leadership could communicate more with front line employees. Proactive measures to market changes could make employees more prepared to deal with customers.

I worked at First Financial Bankshares full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Other employees that are not management are great to work with. Great benefits and retirement. State of the art technology.

    Cons

Budget cuts, Buying a bank they cut employee retirement and pay raises to afford it (unfair bad practice). Management cuts the departments down to small size and expects tons of work to be done with understaffed areas. Management will not listen to staff with recommendations and will do what they think is right with no experience in the field. When something needs to be replaced, or upgraded, they refuse to use the budget we requested to get it and will utilize it on something else. Poor Pay. Poor raises 1-2% increases or less if buying a bank.
Bad decisions on management. Bringing in FIS company to assist Desktop and it was one of the worse decisions the bank has done. Terrible support from that group.

    Advice to Management

Hire more workers and less management.
They hire these managers they supposedly have experience, but you can tell they don't.

I worked at First Financial Bankshares full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I would say that the benefits are decent. Easy & repetitive.

    Cons

Very political environment, senior management spends a lot of time at the golf course but then expects the employees to over work, complains about giving overtime, brown nosing or sucking up to the boss IS the culture for this company. Unless you are a white male, do not expect to have any growth potential here.
"Do as I say, not as I do" culture. They stress that this is a small community bank, when it really is just another corporate bank buying up small banks. HR takes days to call or email you back. Make sure you read and re-read your employee handbook.

    Advice to Management

Learn to value your employees for the work they do for the company, not what they can actually do for you personally.

I have been working at First Financial Bankshares full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    People generally nice
    Good insurance
For the most part people are kind-hearted and helpful

    Cons

    Incredibly low salaries
    Little room for advancement
    Antiquated technology
    Very cliquey

    Advice to Management

    Be open to new ideas
Do a salary survey & pay all people what they are worth - not just a select few at the top
    Lighten up

I worked at First Financial Bankshares full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity to get involved with new and emerging technologies. Upper management is reasonably willing to listen to advice. Good opportunity to advance if willing to work vey hard.

    Cons

Small teams with large amout of work. Working projects as a single developer or sometimes a team of 2-4 that would normally have teams 5-10. Also needed to split attention between 2-4 large projects made it difficult to work effectively. Very low pay.

    Advice to Management

Take head of warnings about time lines from development and lower echelons. Time lines that are created with little to no input from the people working on the project will usually fail.

I have been working at First Financial Bankshares full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Provides a relaxed environment with a lot of free time. Flexible schedule and decent hours. Large focus on customer service and getting to know customers. Referral goals are very manageable.

    Cons

Unprofessional and untrained management. No opportunity for advancement unless you are a favorite, in which case you can get positions that you are not qualified for. So much down time that there is nothing to do at all. Health care benefits must be paid for. Yearly raises are 3% at most. Managers share confidential employee conversations with other employees and constantly gossip. Base pay is $10.50 which is relatively low compared to other banks. Referral incentives are crap.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who are qualified and able to train rather than people you like who have zero qualification. Stop gossiping and keep closed door conversations with other employees private.
