I worked at First New York FCU full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

terrific people ad setup to be a part of, creative culture to contribute, and your opinion is valued and often implemented into policy

    Cons

limited upward mobility, operated by a board who the employees generally felt was outdated and uninformed, and inferior pay scale to competitive banks

    Advice to Management

    management is excellent

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at First New York FCU full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They pay you and it's a Credit Union not a Bank

    Cons

Your opinion does not matter at all, from the CEO down, everything is based on whether or not very specific people (CEO included) likes you or not. There is absolutely no effective leadership, no protection of member information and accounts and no desire to improve and do what's right for the changing banking industry. Decisions are made on a whim with no informed information behind it.

    Advice to Management

Get a degree, take some leadership skills and listen to those who have intelligent thoughtful and informed ways to improve the organization for the better. There are people within the organization with talent and care about improving things for the members and the well-being of the Credit Union.

I have been working at First New York FCU part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Other employees are so friendly it feels like they could be family. Even though the company has employees that are close there is still a high level of professionalism that make you feel confident that no one is getting special treatment and at the end of the day this is a work environment that is treated as one.

    Cons

The negative aspect to this job is that you come in contact with disgruntled members, or people who have just had a bad day and they end up yelling at you or just being rude. This is part of any position that comes in direct contact with people. But it's definitely the biggest draw back. You have to be confident enough to know what you're talking about and make sure you don't take anything personally.

    Advice to Management

Being able to talk to employees is huge. There's a fine line with being friendly and being friends. Never cross that line. As an employee I feel the current management does really well with this.

I have been working at First New York FCU full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They offer a decent Heath care.

    Cons

Pay. Vacation. Dental. Little room to advance. Poor staffing to do high turnover caused by bad pay. Claims to be tech advanced but systems go down all the time. Bonuses are a joke. Get experience here and move on!

    Advice to Management

    Pay your employees.

    Pros

Paid health insurance for individual, decent paid time off, but not great: 2 weeks vacation must accrue. Some of the managers really care about you and try to be flexible. Ability to transfer to a different branch to work in front line positions as openings become available. Usually promote from within.

    Cons

Poor leadership. No concern for employees only the bottom line. Front line staff only work half day on Saturday, but are required to take a full day vacation if they want a Saturday off. Employees are chastised for using sick time. Executives do not allow managers to manage their own employees; stuck between two different objectives and the executive always wins. Not enough staff to cover amount of work. Very poor salaries and raises. Not competitive within industry or local organizations. Very little employee development, all geared towards sales and tellers. Advancement is minimal; you may see a promotion with a title change, but they give you literally ten to twenty cents an hour to take the new position. Very high turnover. Low employee morale. More people are looking for jobs than they realize.

    Advice to Management

Better starting salaries, better raises, more flexibility, more employee recognition.
