    I have been working at First Niagara Financial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    At the smaller locations a strong bond can be formed with customers that go well beyond basic banking needs. The company as a whole is very active in charity and volunteer work. If you are lucky enough to work at a branch with great people then your time at First Niagara will be very enjoyable.

    Cons

    as of April 2015 the company is in the latter stages of a fundamental overhaul changing the focus and mission. technology upgrades have been abundant and not always successful, staffing model in in flux, and sales goals are an ever moving target with success seemingly always being dangled just out of reach. Pay is very inconsistent from one employee to the next, those promoted from within have significantly lower salaries than those in equal positions hired from outside the company

    Advice to Management

    pay employees better who are promoted from within. if they are underpaid they will know, and they will leave.

    Pros

    Bankers hours aren't bad. There are worse banks out there. That push their employees harder and have worse policies for their customers.

    Cons

    They push you hard to sell and the incentives aren't as good as when I started.

    Pros

    Most employees are nice, decent paid time off policy,

    Cons

    Weak Culture, reactive versus proactive - seem to always be 'putting out fires', work on and discuss the same things over and over but lack of progress, office politics are alive and thriving, lack of strong, motivational leaders in key roles/departments which impacts engagement levels, Personal goals not set till 2nd-3rd quarter in many areas but evaluated for entire year, limited opportunities for growth in jobs,

    Advice to Management

    Strong, experienced, motivating leaders needed in key 'people' roles, earlier goal setting needs to be enforced, Culture needs to be developed, Greater visibility of Sr. Leadership, more opportunities for employees, people need to be 'rowing in the same direction',

    I have been working at First Niagara Financial (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule, and pretty good health benefits. Currently have been investing in better technology making it easier for employees to perform their job functions. Solid 9-5 type job with stability. Salary increases yearly (as long as the company performs well -- this year some pay grades were ineligible for the cost of living increase)

    Cons

    Company culture is focused solely on the Bank and the Bank's goals, making other departments/subsidiaries feel like unwanted, unrecognized and unimportant. Hiring process is slow and there is a disconnect between the many offices. The have created a clear career-path for those working in insurance, however, the upward mobility seems to be extremely slow and limited due to not investing in talent at the lower levels to be able to promote within. I have seen a lot of positions be filled with outside talent instead of organically promoting talent, which becomes discouraging to those in the lower level positions. There also seems to be the 'are we going to be bought out?' question forever lingering in the back of peoples minds. Feels like the companies reputation in the marketplace is not favorable.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on high-quality talent recruitment to reduce high-turnover rate; Improve hiring process (currently slow and can drag on due to unfocused company goals) engage in honest discussions with all teammates - too many decisions happen behind closed doors without the opinions of those who actually perform the work.

    can move up quickly, pto, I was lucky and had 2 great managers who are/were understanding and have guided and supported me to get several promotions.

    Cons

    a lot of pressure from management to meet sales goals, management changes frequently, not so great pay, horrible and expensive health plans, inconsistency in rules/regulations.

    Pros

    Pay and benefits are OK. A lot of paid time off with higher pay grades. Coworkers are generally supportive. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

    A lot of internal change; some of which isn't well communicated or thought out by senior management. Lack of unifying organizational culture. Inadequate IT support. Lack of consistent management message. Some employees are well compensated but others have no reason to give extra effort. Lack of career development. Tuition reimbursement policy below peer group.

    Advice to Management

    Rebrand FNFG to better compete regionally. Invest in people and process development. Stop relying on high cost consultants.

    lousy training and managers who do nothing but sit at their desks all day. If help is needed, I have to walk all around to find someone.

    Advice to Management

    Team leaders should actually get up once in awhile and walk around and see if anybody needs help.
